Karma's When I Feel Like It Blog

Where Have I Been?

Hi there! It seems I’ve taken an unintentional blogging break! My last post was on the last day of February, and here we are, halfway through March.
So where the heck have I been? A few places and busy with a new exercise program too.
Two weeks ago, I started this:
T25
Focus T25 is a series of workout videos from pro trainer Shaun T. You may remember I started his “Rockin Body” workouts back in November. They were great for getting back into exercising again, but I was feeling ready for a new challenge. March 1st was day 100 of this new journey of mine and it was time to step things up a little. I’m feeling really good these days: my energy is high and my weight is lower than it has been in a very long time.

The beginning of March also brought an opportunity to have a breath of spring. My sister said to me, “How about going to the Spring Bulb Show at Smith College? I could really stand to stick my nose into some hyacinths!” I agreed. Here is a slideshow of some of the lovely spring bulbs and hothouse flowers we were able to enjoy:

In the tropical room, where my lens kept fogging up due to the humidity, Jennifer and I made a special discovery. They have a chocolate tree at Smith College! No really! The source of chocolate, the cacao:
Chocolate!

Last weekend, my sister, my daughters and I traveled to Cape Cod to celebrate some birthdays. Meghan was home from school on her spring break so we took the opportunity to visit my mother. Meghan’s birthday was February 25th and my mother’s is today (Happy Birthday Mom!). We had a lovely time shopping, eating, talking, laughing and trying to visit the beach.

I say “trying” to visit the beach because the wind was very very cold, but I managed to take a few pictures of the sparkling sea on a deceiving sunny day:

I hadn’t had a photo of my daughters taken together since Christmas time and I really wanted one for my new iPhone, so Meghan and Sarah obligingly posed in the cold wind for a few minutes for this shot:

So, is it starting to feel like spring at all where you are? It continues to be a roller coaster ride weather-wise around here. Temperatures start to feel mild then dip back down into ripping cold with nasty wind chills. Today we are enjoying temperatures in the mid-50’s, but tomorrow’s high is predicted to be 30 degrees. Snow still blankets most of the ground, with a few sections of muddy, brown grass just starting to emerge. Hurry up Spring! We miss you!

  1. What a lovely beach ! I am acquainted with the concept of FREEZING beaches and sympathize. The shot of your daughters is lovely. Wish I could have been at that flower show.
Spring has NOT arrived. It was a bit above zero C today but down to minus 7 or so tomorrow. I want so much to be gardening. Usually by now I’d at least be outside moving rocks or digging in the mud. Sigh …

    • Thanks Sybil. Winter sure is keeping a firm grip this year, isn’t it? Time for it to let go!

  2. Sounds like you’ve been keeping yourself pretty busy! Spring is trying so, so hard to move in here in Arkansas—right now we’re having torrential rains—but there are still patches of snow and sleet from our winter storm two weeks ago. I think there’s going to be a massive “hallelujah!” across the nation when summer finally get here!

    • This winter has been just plain nasty, hasn’t it? Sure doesn’t feel like global warming is an issue, lol!

  3. Oooh! I wouldn’t have minded going to the spring bulb show myself!
Mmmm….chocolate! AND a day at the beach! Can’t beat that! πŸ™‚

    • It was all quite nice. I imagine spring bulbs are busting out all over Texas by now!

  4. Funny, my beach doesn’t look like that. Or at least I don’t think it does. My beach is covered with an enormous amount of snow on top of ice and the whole Bay is frozen solid too so I haven’t actually seen my beach in quite awhile.

The spring bulb show is a good idea. I think I can probably find indoor gardens someplace within driving distance. I hope so. It’s that or max out my credit card on a one-way ticket to Costa Rica.

    • Cape Cod beaches do seem to have that advantage of the snow melting away fairly quickly – maybe it is all the strong salt air that helps it along.
I’m with you on feeling the need to max out a credit card and take off – I’d settle for Florida, though Costa Rica would certainly be nice!

  5. Congratulations and well done on your exercise journey! Sounds like it is going really well. Those spring flowers are amazing. All that color!! And your daughters look beautiful on the beach. Maybe shivering with the cold, but beautiful. πŸ™‚

  7. Meghan and Sarah look so cold there on the beach! But what a beautiful view across the ocean and the slideshow of flowers are just gorgeous! It sounds like you have been having a lot of fun during your unintentional blogging break. I’ve been absent from my blog lately too, unintentionally, and for no apparent reason at all! I miss everyone though and I’m doing the rounds now to see what everyone has been up to. πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Joanne. I think the “when I feel like it” way is probably the easiest way to handle blogging!

  8. How lovely to take that spring break…both the one at the bulb show and the one on the Cape! Your daughters look cold! And very grown up as well.

    • Thanks Dawn! And now if it would just start feeling a bit more like spring! It is a little closer today with 50 degrees and rain.
