A Quick Hello

Hi there! I unexpectedly have taken almost a month off from blogging. My intentions have been good but my follow-through has been bad! It has been a busy spring, once it finally arrived here in New England. Much to do with never enough time to do it. So many photos and ideas. Here’s a little peek, via my iPhone photos, of just a bit of what I’ve been enjoying this spring.

First soft serve of season
Sarah and I made our first visit to Mountain View in Hampden for soft serve on a wonderfully warm early May evening; seemed a worthy event for a selfie.

Lilacs full bloom
My lilacs are in full bloom right now perfuming the air with their wonderful scent. I take a deep lungful each time I get in or out of my car since they line my driveway.

Mother's Day dinner
On Mother’s Day, my two daughters went shopping for, cooked and cleaned up after this delicious meal. Those are grilled chicken thighs and a salad with spinach, strawberries, mandarin oranges and toasted pine nuts. It was delicious!

Work surprise
The day after Mother’s Day, the treats continued. Meghan showed up at my school and brought me these flowers and an iced coffee at lunch time. I was touched by her thoughtfulness.

Last home track meet
After school that day, I went to Sarah’s final track meet at her high school. Since it was the last home meet of the season, this was the meet for the celebration of the track team members who are seniors.

Filling the lawn
Traditionally, I mow the lawn for the first time each year during the first week of May. Spring was slow to start this year, and so was I! I finally did it for the first time this past Thursday. By the time I got to it, all these pretty weeds were filling the back corner of my yard like wildflowers. I felt kind of bad mowing them down, but I really couldn’t let the lawn get to a height where it would be difficult to deal with it.

Visitors to the pool
Due to the heavy amounts of snow we received this winter, my husband made the determination to release the edges of our pool cover while there was still heavy snow on top of it in order to prevent any chance of the walls collapsing under the weight. He decided to completely remove the cover a few weeks ago. It won’t be actively taken care of on a daily basis for a couple more weeks and in the meantime, this pair of ducks has been stopping by for a swim! I guess it does kind of look like a pond right now.

The days of school are winding down – 22 more for me, only 9 for Sarah, my graduating senior. I hope it won’t be another month before I post again, but busy days are ahead. I hope your spring is treating you well!

  1. Love the lawn with the Violets and Creeping Charlie. Do you notice that when you walk through it it smells so lovely ?

Oh and you have Lilacs in bloom too ! Can’t wait till they’re out here.

Your daughters are wonderful to make such treats for you. But then you reap what you sow !

    • Thanks Sybil. Yes, you are right – they do smell nice, even when you walk through with the lawnmower πŸ˜‰

  2. I love the scent of your lilacs. Mine are beginning to bloom, but so many of the buds have gotten bit by frost, I don’t think I’ll get much of a display this year. Your Mother’s Day dinner looks wonderful. Our weather has been cool so I made a slow cooker full of chili several days ago and tonight I’m fixing a zucchini-tomato impossible pie. A friend mentioned she made one earlier in the week, and it reminded me that I used to like them so I rummaged up some recipes. Recipes are always multiple meals for me, but that’s okay – it means I only need to cook a couple of times a week.

  3. Hello Karma! You know how much I love to see your snow photos, yet after the snow is all melted and the beautiful flowers are colouring your world again, it’s almost as wonderful for me to see as the snow was, knowing how happy you are that spring is finally here! I’m behind with my blogging too, and with dropping by to say hello to my blogging friends, but I think of you often. Enjoy your spring days. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Joanne. Blogging is hard to keep up with at times it seems, but I know what you mean about thinking of blogging friends often.

  5. So much happening! Your lilacs are gorgeous, and I’m a little envious as my didn’t bloom at all this year (and we only had one bunch of flowers on it last year). I’m not sure what we’re doing wrong with it (especially since we have mostly left it alone). I love your lawn wildflowers. Those little flowers that pop up always make it hard for me to mow the first time around. And you have ducks! They’re so cute. πŸ™‚

    • Thank you Robin. Lilacs seem to be that way – good years and bad years.

  6. Oh my goodness, your lilacs are GORGEOUS!!
I’m such a loser when it comes to blogging…posted a couple of times (I think?) and then started slacking off again LOL

    • I’m a slacker blogger for sure – life has just been crazy busy lately. But I will be out of school for the summer in only 3 more glorious days, so it’s all good!
