A Wintery Cape Cod Visit

Last weekend, the women of my immediate family and I had the pleasure of spending the weekend together on Cape Cod. My mother lives there and my sister, two daughters and I drove down to visit. We had two birthdays to celebrate as well – Meghan’s 20th, which occured a couple weeks ago and my mother’s (age politely not included here) which happens tomorrow. As always we enjoyed laughter and each other’s company. It was also an opportunity for me to spend some time getting to know my 85mm lens!

I tried a couple of candid portrait shots without my daughters’ knowledge. I adjusted these a little in Lightroom. I like the fine but soft detail on their faces.

The weather was still quite chilly, but thankfully not raining or snowing. We visited snow-covered Smuggler’s Beach in South Yarmouth.

Meghan and Sarah took the opportunity to have their first-ever snowball fight at the beach. I appreciated the stop-action in these shots.

Can you see the snowball Meghan is tossing in the air here, ready to chuck it at her sister?

I found a couple bird photos to add to my collection (probably no surprise to regular readers here)
Gull against a winter sky

I have not been able to identify this duck yet, but I found it very interesting. Any thoughts about what he or she might be?

And a group shot of our bundled up crew:
From left to right: me, Meghan, Sarah (wearing her Totoro hooded sweatshirt, complete with ears!), my mother, my sister Jennifer.

  1. This looks like it was lots of fun!! I am glad you identified all the ladies of your crew. It would have been a toss-up if you were you or Jennifer. Anyone ever tell you that you look a little bit alike?

    • Thanks Kathy. My sister and I don’t get the comment that we look alike very often. Without sunglasses on, I think that you can see we are sisters, but she looks much more like my father’s side of the family where I look more like my mother’s.

  2. Thanks for the fine pictures Karma.
It looks as if spring has come to Denmark 🙂

  3. You are taking some wonderful photos with your new lens, Karma. It’s not the lens, of course, it’s the photographer. 🙂

It looks like a great time, and it was great to see your crew.

And now, I have a question for you. Would you mind if I invited you to participate in a Black & White photo challenge? If you’re too busy or would prefer not to, that’s cool. I thought I should ask rather than just spring it on you.

    • I’m always up for a challenge, Robin, thanks for asking! Maybe it will help see me through these last wintery days of spring! Thank you for the kind words!

      • Oh good! I was just writing up the post so I’ll go ahead and issue your invitation to play. 😀

  4. These are terrific, that 85mm lens really likes you! ; )
And wow! I bet it was cold at the beach that day! Any signs of spring your way yet?

    • Thanks Kate. Not much spring around here unfortunately. Still waiting for all the snow to melt!

  6. What a great time to all be together! Your girls will always remember the winter weekend on the cape with their mom and aunt and grandmother. Special memories.
