Gone Tomatoes

For yesterday and today, days 41 and 42 of summer, I present you with tomatoes!
A vegetable garden can change a bit when you are gone for a couple days. As I perused my cucumber and zucchini plants to see if anything needed picking, I noticed a bit of red out of the corner of my eye.

The first of my early girl tomatoes were beginning to ripen.

That one in the upper left of that photo, looked like it would be ready to eat very soon. And today it was!
First of the season

I sliced it up and ate it with my dinner. Nothing quite like the first garden fresh tomato of the summer.
Dinner tonight

  1. I planted patio tomatoes this year. Lots of green babies, so there’s hope. Yours looks delicious.

  3. Warm tomatoes right out of the garden. Love ’em. And are those garden cukes ? Wow our climates sure are different; mine are just setting their tiny green fruit. Sigh …

    • Yes, garden cukes – I’ve had those for a couple weeks now. The tomatoes are early girls – so I do expect them around now, about 2 months after putting the plants in the ground. Will have to wait quite a bit longer for the beefsteaks!

  4. Your tomatoes are so beautiful!! Mine don’t look nearly as nice (a little problem with splitting, ants, and blossom end rot).

    • Gee thanks. I don’t know if they will all be pretty, but they sure are tasty!

  5. Robin posted about tomatoes, too, and I am longing for some fresh garden ones. Won’t be any until later in August…

    • They will be here sooner than you think I am sure – the month of August always goes by in a blink!
