Pool Party? Days 11 &12

Ah, my relationship with the pool in my backyard! It is wonderful to have, but also requires much time, work and money be poured into it – literally. The pool and I have had good times. The pool and I have had bad times. Then after all that TLC, the pool just decided to give up on us, one of many victims of a harsh winter in this area.

We ordered a new pool and it has finally been installed. I’ve been through far too many hot and difficult pool installations so I begged my husband to please pay someone else to do it this time around! On Monday and Tuesday, a crew of hard working guys got it done with much more efficiency than what hubby and I would likely have mustered.

Monday’s progress:
New pool construction

Tuesday:

It continues to fill from our garden hose as I type this blog post.
Filling

12,000 gallons takes a bit of time. We couldn’t remember exactly how long it takes, so I shut it off at bed time last night and turned it back on this morning just to be sure it didn’t fill too high over night (although I don’t really think that would have been an issue with how slowly it seems to be going).

  1. Pools are a double edged sword, that is for sure. Kids always begged to go to the neighbor’s poo until I bought one and then it seemed like I had to beg them just to get in it. Now it is used for cooling off after mowing the lawn, although I have been known to relax in the floating chair from time to time. I had to have someone come and fill my pool as my well would never have been able to get the job done. Here is hoping you have a better relationship with this pool… and be careful on that ladder. šŸ™‚

    • Thanks Mike. I have a similar situation with my kids – as they have gotten older their usage of the pool is far decreased, but even though this could have been the opportunity to not take care of a pool anymore, I decided I wasn’t ready to try going without one. I also like cooling off after mowing the lawn and lounging on a raft on a lazy afternoon.

  2. Our weather is getting hot enough now that a pool would be appreciated. Except for the cleaning part.

  3. I love your idea of your 66 days of summer! Those strawberry pictures look like I could pick one off the page. The mutant looks yummy and juicy! I am glad someone else did your pool work. That is back breaking as I remember when you were little. Also, I wouldn’t have to worry about you falling off that latter trying to fix the liner. : (
Your pictures are beautiful! (as usual)

  4. […] story As you may remember from last year (or click here if you don’t), we had to replace our pool when the heft of the heavy snow collapsed the wall of our old one. We […]
