Rain, rain… well, it’s better than snow!

Rainy day

The rain started yesterday afternoon and is forecast to continue all day today. I could complain, but I won’t. After all, it could be snow, right? Most of the snow, except for a few patches here and there, has finally melted. Oh and except for this snow too:
Collapsed pool
Yeah, did I mention my pool kind of collapsed this winter? Yes, that same pool that I had all those issues with last summer? The pool that I maimed my poor foot in while putting in a brand new liner? All for naught – now we need a brand new pool. Sigh. I’m hoping we can find someone to afford-ably install one for us this spring. I really have no interest in doing this job again. Hubby and I have done this several times and it is not an enjoyable project.

Here’s a more enjoyable project! We have several teachers retiring from my school this June, and retirement quilts are once again in the making. I’ve made quilt squares for three of them, two Red Sox fans and a yoga devotee:

More joy I’ve found: my fitness journey continues and I’m making good progress! I can happily announce that I’m back down to and so far maintaining the weight that I was before I became pregnant with Meghan 20 years ago! That’s a loss of about 15 pounds. I haven’t weighed this little or felt this fit in as many years. I’m entering Week 5 of Focus T25, the last week of the Alpha round.
Alpha
That makes me just a little nervous but excited too. Week 6 of the program steps up to the Beta round, an even more intense series of workouts. I haven’t followed the program exactly as laid out here because of Zumba. I’ve been skipping the Wednesday workout and the second Friday workout listed – I do Zumba Wednesday night and Saturday morning instead, so I’m still doing 6 workouts a week and resting on Sundays.

The rain unfortunately cancelled a hike with friends today that I was looking forward to, and hoping to bring you pictures of, but it has been rescheduled for next Sunday. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for that. This visually un-pretty month is over tomorrow! Bring on April- I can’t wait to see things turning green and growing again.

  1. 1. It’s raining here too … but it’s FREEZING RAIN !!!!
    2. Pity about the stooopid pool. Did you ever think of using the liner to make a garden pond ?
    3. Love the lil’ quilts. What wonderful keepsake gifts.
    4. Congratulations, on the weight-loss and fitness. Won’t it be wonderful when you can spend more time outside !

      2. Stoooopid pool is right! A pond would be lovely but I don’t know if I would take care of one very well, and I’m quite sure my 4-legged housemates would trod through or lay in one on a fairly regular basis.
      3. Thanks!
      4. Thanks again! REALLY looking forward to spending-time-outside weather.

  2. Good going! You are much more disciplined than I – I’ve never managed to stick with any exercise routine. We have had rain too, although I woke this morning to a dusting of snow. Just enough to prettify things and remind me that spring is fickle.

    • Thanks Carol. Snow is no longer pretty once it gets to be the end of March in my opinion!

  3. Still raining here. We’ve had More Than Enough. And they’re calling for snow tonight. O_o
I love the quilt squares (especially the yoga one). Sorry about the pool. Been there, done that, and that’s why we’re not installing our own pool here. It’s not a fun job at all. Congratulations on doing so well with your fitness goals and the weight loss! I may have to give T25 a try.

    • What a ridiculous winter this has been, hasn’t it? At the very least, snow this time of year seems to melt quickly.
Thank you Robin. T25 is highly motivating – but be prepared with some good sneakers to do a lot of jumping! There is a girl in the videos who works as the low-impact modifier though, so that helps when the jumping starts to feel like a little too much!

  4. You spoke too soon! I’m so impressed with your commitment to get in shape, you should be proud! I have a half marathon coming up and my training has been slow due to injury but I’m trying to soldier on. I have crocus that want to open up to the sun, I guess they’ll have to wait for another day. Go Sox!

    • I know, right? Who knew we’d get a plowable amount of snow this morning – and so freaky the way it happened.
Thanks Becky. Good luck with your half marathon!

  5. April has arrived here Karma! It’s April Fool’s Day and the weather is much cooler than yesterday. It’s the same over here, but the reverse of you….we keep thinking the cooler weather has arrived, and it gets hot again! I would have thought that snow would be nicer than rain, but I can’t base that on having lived in snow! Congratulations on the weight loss, you are going so well. 🙂

    • By the end of March, even folks who like snow have a tendency to be sick of it. Rain feels more like spring is in the air. We, as humans, always seem to want what we don’t have though, don’t we?
      Thank you Joanne.

  6. ah, good for you to getting in shape. my meghan does zumba at school and absolutely loves it!
spring is slowly making herself known round these parts: robins are singing their hearts out, flowers and bushes are beginning to open up . . . as well as the pollen and allergies! blech! that’s the only thing about spring i DON’T like! ; )
