After being treated to a relatively warm and mild autumn here in New England, things have changed significantly here, and in much of the country it seems. Cold air, snow, ice – we seem to be getting it all, all of a sudden. It isn’t “officially” winter yet of course, but it might as well be. There have only been dustings of snow so far – though that’s due to change tonight. Electra is expected to drop 6-8 inches on this region. But it is one of those things that I can’t change, so why should I worry about it, right Robin?
Instead of worry, I bring you some of the things I’ve been up to in this cold weather of the last three weeks or so.
Before Meghan went back to college after Thanksgiving, we joined good friends of ours Greg and Sherry (brother and sister) and Sherry’s pooch Angel for a cold-weather, heart-pumping hike at Bigelow Hollow in Union CT.
Though the air was chilled, the company was great and the scenery was rather pretty.
We hiked about 3 miles through the park on marked trails, and even had a picnic.
Daphne for some reason believed she belonged on the picnic table. We had to convince her otherwise.
With the exception of the four-legged ones, no one was really tempted!
Back at home, the dogs are quite happy that the snow season has begun.
And the weather is definitely not too frightful for regular soaks in the hot tub.
I wish I could share the beautiful, clear, starry nights that I gaze at from the tub that these cold days have been leaving behind.
As much as I hate to admit it, November and December have been shedding some very pretty light.
There are these lights to enjoy as well:
Here’s some more pretty sparkle:
(You knew I’d have to have that ornament on my tree, right?)
I told you in this post that I was committed to making some changes in the one thing that I could change – me. How’s this post for a change? Appreciation of the cold from a self-proclaimed summer girl!
Can’t fight them so might as well join them, right? “Them” being Mother Nature and Old Man Winter, of course.

I’ll still never be a fan of winter, Carol, but I do my best to get along. 🙂

Well done! That’s the way, don’t fight the cold, learn to enjoy it….says the one who fights the heat of the summer, every single year! I know it’s a difficult thing to accept the weather as it is, when all you want is the opposite. Funny you should mention Robin though, as it was she who taught me to accept ‘what is’ in each season and to find the joy there. 🙂

It is much easier said than done, isn’t it Joanne? That Robin is just full of good wisdom!
Thank you.

Excellent! If you live where there is winter you might as well enjoy a little of it! 🙂

Thanks Dawn – not that I still don’t love summer best, but I’ll try to make the best of winter.

Oh to soak in the hot tub in WINTER! How lucky are you?

I must admit, I do feel pretty lucky about that. It is snowing again today – if it is still snowing tonight, maybe I will try my first soak-in-the-snow!

Sounds like you had fun!! How much snow did you end up with from that storm…..and where are the pictures??? You KNOW I’m dying to see them! 😉
The picture of your dogs sitting on the porch is adorable, and I love your tree! I just put ours up yesterday LOL

We ended up with about 6 inches from that storm. It is snowing again right now as I sit here typing this comment. We’re expect 2-5 inches from this one. With the timing of the last storm I didn’t really get the “ooh isn’t that pretty” kind of scenery to take pictures of – it changed to freezing drizzle in the wee hours of the morning so all the branches and everything were empty and blah looking by morning. I’ve got a couple of snowy dog pictures and one of our little lighted outdoor Christmas tree – maybe I’ll put a few pictures of those up to share. 🙂

What a difference a few days make. My daughters flew in from Florida hoping for a white Christmas and it’s almost all gone today. Crazy weather!

Yup, it is all gone here too. A couple days near 60 will do that, lol!

I can’t believe I missed this fun post, Karma. Just saw the pingback in the mess that is my email inbox. I love all the colors and smiles in your images, as well as your sense of humor. Thank you for the mention, and I apologize for taking so long to respond to it. I’m not sure which is more chaotic… the renovations and all the work going on here at the house or my email inbox. 😀
