Did I make you wonder about this blog post with that title? It is me trying to be cute. I had three brave participants (four if you include me) in the iHeartFaces June Photo Hunt, and I’d like to draw your attention to their posts if you haven’t seen them already.

Mike of Picture Day jumped right in, going so far as to create a category for the hunt on his blog page, but then felt he kind of petered out. I gave him a gentle nudge explaining the easy ways of a photo hunt around here and how I’m pretty much “rules shmules”. He ended up finding a beautiful variety of photos to share from the month of June.

I was looking forward to the gorgeous collages that I was sure that Robin of Breezes at Dawn would create. She not only came through, but managed to showcase something for all 30 words of the hunt! Robin has some really lovely photos and was very creative.

Carol of Wanderings of an Elusive Mind also thought that she would jump all over this photo hunt, but lamented that she got distracted and forgot to take the photos she planned. I’m happy that Carol decided to post the photos that she remembered to take. No worries, Carol, about being “feeble” or anything else! I enjoyed your photos and am glad you made the effort to participate!

(Pssssst…. hey Joanne and Dawn….weren’t you going to show me some photos for this hunt? 😉 )

You can find my photo hunt here. I had fun just taking random photos here and there during the month, trying to keep the list in mind when I had down time. On the day I did the post, I had Sarah come outside and blow bubbles for me. I had forgotten how difficult photographing those could be.

That same day, I started picking raspberries from the patch in my yard. I’ve been enjoying at least this many
berries
each day since. I’ve been thinking about making this pie again soon if it isn’t too late to still find local strawberries.

I’m starting to wonder, my friends, is the hey-day of blogging starting to wane? I know we all have busy lives and other things going on. It seems to me that this WordPress community that I feel lucky to have become a part of 3 years ago, has started to lose interest. I was doing a little housekeeping around the blog the other day (you may have noticed a couple widgets I have removed and a couple I’ve added) and realized I haven’t seen posts from plenty of favorite bloggers in quite a while and folks that used to comment fairly often, rarely do anymore. Do any of you find this to be the case at your blog?

Is there interest in another photo hunt this summer? Let me know what you think about this -and my other questions too – in the comments. Thanks!

  1. I never quite got back to going through my June photos for more entries into the June-Photo-Hunt-Thingy. Summer is both too busy and too lazy I think.
As to blogging slowing down – I don’t know if all of blogging is, or if individuals just sort of peter out after a period of time. I find that I become obsessed with an activity (hobby) and it lasts for a length of time, then I move on to something else. Perhaps that’s how it goes with people and blogging. Perhaps we just need to explore new blogs to replace the old as they fade away. And your photo hunts – I love them. It’s motivation for getting out with the camera. I think one a day for a month is a bit too much (for me at least) but having a few to be taken during a month is much more manageable.

  2. Stupy me! I love your photos – especially the bubbles.

    • Thanks Carol. I suppose it is true that blogging enthusiasm may wane as people move on or try other things. Its not like there aren’t plenty of blogs to explore out there – finding the ones that are willing to give and receive feedback (comments) is the harder part.

  3. I think for some blogging has waned. I still love it, but I find it hard to keep up with some of the challenges, as there are so many! I try to keep up with Cee’s, and the Friday Floral Foto I’ve fallen behind on, even though there are so many florals to photograph right now. A photo per day is also too much for me. I could do either bi-weekly or monthly. Would love to follow something you put together! The June challenge was too challenging for me.
Love your photos, Karen. The bubbles are great, but the raspberries! OHHH the raspberries are gorgeous!

    • Oh I could never try (nor want to) keep up with all the different challenges and such that are out there – hence part of the reason for the title of this blog “When I Feel Like It”! 🙂 By the way, I didn’t really expect people to try to keep up with the photo everyday thing – I just posted that list as more of a list of “suggestions” of shots to “hunt” for during the month! I certainly didn’t stick to finding one every day, that is for sure. Loosey-goosey about so-called “rules”!
      Thank you Tamara.

  4. Blogging has changed for me. I follow more blogs than I did when I began … and sometimes feel over-whelmed. I had a friend visiting me for a week recently and rarely went on line while she was here. When she left I had over 70 valid emails in my in-box.

Don’t give up on me or on blogging …

    or the photo hunts …

    • I have no plans to give up blogging, Sybil, no worries there! I enjoy photography too much to stop. It is nice to know, however, that someone is looking, you know what I mean? I hope inspiration for another photo hunt will strike for August. 🙂

  5. I need to try out those bubbles! Looks like fun!

As far as blogging, I’ve noticed over the years (i began back in 2009) that summer is usually when most bloggers take “time off”. I know that for me, I’m trying to cut down on my screen time, mainly with flickr and facebook. I like blogging personally, but I betcha that’s what’s going on. People are off on vacations or at the pool or just taking a break from the old computer. It usually picks back up when school begins again. : )

    • I’m sure you’re right Kate. It is too nice outside to spend too much time in front of a screen – something I am always trying to remind my daughters of, lol. Summer is when I have more down time, so maybe that’s why things seem a bit slower to me.

  6. I haven’t been at this blogging thing for very long, at least not consistently. I started and stopped numerous times but it wasn’t until my interest in photography did it really take off. I find if I don’t try to schedule myself I do better. I create images when I want and post when I can. Some weeks it is constant and others it is only a day or two. I also found I like to just post an image, no words, just let the image speak for itself.

I would vote yes to another photo hunt… and this time you’ll not have to ‘nudge’ me. 😉

    • I kind of go with the same sort of philosophy when it comes to blogging Mike. I have no personal schedule or plan for blogging. I take pictures when I feel like it and blog when I feel like it! 😉
If inspiration strikes, I promise to post a photo hunt for August. I’ll spend July thinking about it! 😀

  7. You know I love your photo challenges. I was just too overwhelmed with company and work in June…and sort of overwhelmed by a photo a day, even though I KNOW you told us it didn’t have to… I don’t think I even really read the list. Kept meaning to…I think I’m one of your best fans for photo hunts…love them but just could not get organized for this one.

Also on the blogging front. I still blog pretty often but I’m having trouble getting around to everyone now. There are so many interesting blogs and I just have the hardest time getting to all and then I feel bad about the ones I didn’t get to…ah well….will carry on. I haven’t gotten into tweeting just because I’m sure that would soak up more time. I’m hoping it’s a fad…lol…that will go away. Sure…

  8. PS: LOVE the bubbles and the raspberries..Man those are gorgeous!

    Comment by dawnkinster — July 5, 2013 @ 9:40 pm | Reply

    • No worries, Dawn. I would have of course loved to have seen what you chose for a photo hunt because you are always very creative, but life just gets in the way sometimes! I know the feeling. And it is true about blogging. My sister and I were just having a conversation about it because she hasn’t written on her blog for almost a year now, and she was saying how part of the frustration is having to try to keep up with all the other blogs out there in order for it to be interactive and how it is difficult to find the time to do that.
Thank you – those berries are just as yummy as they are pretty! 🙂

  9. Here’s the botanical name for the orange flowers in my yard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asclepias_tuberosa

    Comment by Dawn — July 6, 2013 @ 6:44 am | Reply

    • Gee thanks! Did you plant those or were they native to your yard? I’d love to have some since they attract butterflies and hummingbirds, but I don’t know if that is something you can purchase.

      Comment by Karma — July 9, 2013 @ 8:25 am | Reply

      • I actually bought the original plant..it’s native here, and grows all over untended but I couldn’t get it to grow in my garden for the longest time…it doesn’t transplant well, has a long tap root. What did work is that it reseeded and then last year I actually took some seed and planted it in another area. I can send you seed this fall if you like..but check out your garden center for a small plant. Let me know!

  10. Well, you know me. I blog too much. I got into the habit (addiction??) years ago, and now it seems odd when I don’t blog. But I have noticed a slow down. I think that’s common in the summer, and every now and then someone just ups and quits, and we never hear from them again via the blogging format (some move on to Facebook or Twitter or Flikr). I love your bubbles. I know how hard they are to photograph and think you did a wonderful job. And those raspberries! Mine are puny little things compared to yours.
I’m always up for one of your photo hunts so count me in if you decide to do it.
Thank you for the link and the lovely comments. 🙂

    • Meant to add that I love your play on words with the title of this post. 😀

      Comment by Robin — July 8, 2013 @ 4:41 pm | Reply

      • I don’t think you blog too much Robin! I love knowing there will always be something for me to read over at your place with my morning coffee! Thanks for the compliments on the bubbles and the raspberries and the post title – I was hoping someone would enjoy it like I did! 😉

  11. Oh I’m so glad I didn’t miss this post! Love, love, love the bubbles. They are the coolest! Yes, I am slowing down on the blogging front. Not sure whether the desire to share will surface again tomorrow or in a week or month–or never–but open to what arises next. Have noticed some disappearing of the *old timers* but I still read a bunch of *new timers* whose blogs are still flourishing. Read somewhere that the average person blogs for three years.

    Comment by Kathy — July 17, 2013 @ 1:56 pm | Reply

    • Thank you Kathy. Bubbles are fun! I thought I’d be blogging more myself right now since I am off for the summer, but other things seem to capture my attention. I have made it over the average then I guess, since it was 3 years in April! I know you haven’t been big on photo challenges lately, but I think you’d do a lovely job on the one that Scott has posted right now. 🙂
