When I logged in to WordPress this morning, I noticed a little symbol in the upper right corner of the screen that I’d never seen before. For those of you who blog at WordPress, you know that little speech bubble icon that turns orange when you have a new comment or someone responds to a comment you made? Well this morning there was a little orange trophy-shaped icon in that spot. I clicked on it and this is what I saw:
It is probably hard to read, but it was a “Happy Anniversary” message from WordPress. I started this blog 3 years ago yesterday. My first blog post was pretty simple. You can click right here if you are interested in reading it. It was just a little introduction to my reasons for starting a blog. Three years later, I’ve written 430 posts (this one is number 431), had 40,472 views and my busiest blog day ever was February 28, 2012 with 201 views. I posted a photo-hunt wrap up that day, but those posts never garner that much attention, so I don’t what it was about that one. Weirder still, rarely does a day go by that someone doesn’t view this post. It was from the week that I shared 7 different things about me. It has the Big Bang Theory in it and a periodic table of the elements. “Periodic Table” is a search term that regularly brings views here, which also doesn’t make sense to me when there are so many science web sites out there.
Looking forward to what is to come in this blog, you can be sure I’ll be gearing up with more photography once things get green again.
This spring will be a busy one in this family. Both the girls are going to the prom. Graduation and preparations for going off to college for Meghan. Recital time too.
I’ve got home improvement projects on my mind too. I’m working on trying to get the hubby to put down a new kitchen floor. I’ve shown you my kitchen a few times, here’s a picture from the midst of holiday baking that gives you a good look at the floor:
This one is a few years old, and it is difficult to tell in this shot, but that white floor has gotten really dingy over the years.
Even more so than the floor, however, my dreams so often have been turning to one of these:
I want a hot tub/spa in the worst way. I’ve tried selling hubby on the health benefits for us both, but I’ve yet to move him in a way that could make this happen. It is my belief that my stresses for any particular moment would just melt away if I had one of these in my backyard!
What did you think about my little peek at where I’ve been and where I’m going? Say hello in the comments and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear about any favorite posts you may have had, stuff you might like to see more of or hear more about (or even the stuff you think there should be less of!). I will likely always write about what moves me on a particular day, but if there’s a style of post or a subject you like, I might try to work more of those into my blogs. For me, the fun of blogging is the interacting, so tell me what makes you want to comment on a post.
Happy 3rd Blog o versary to you!! Is that flower in bloom now? I have two lonely little daffodils in my garden. I love the beautiful nature pictures you post especially the birds and flowers. Of course I really love the stories and pictures of those girls! 🙂

Thank you. No, that daffodil is from last year. It will still be quite a while before I have any blooming daffodils in my yard. 😦

That’s a gorgeous daffodil shot! And my goodness, you’ll need that hot tub (and a glass or two of wine) to get through the rest of the school year and the college prep work this summer, but as you work your way through that, don’t forget to stop and have some fun along the way. Both you and your Meghan will need that. Good luck, and if you need a shoulder, I’m here! ; )
P.S. “These Are The Days” may be coming back sooner than expected. Stay tuned . . .

Thanks Katie! See I think hubby really needs to hear just how much we are going to need that hot tub!
I’m subscribed to “These Are The Days” so I will be waiting for news of the return in my email inbox. 🙂

Happy 3rd year blogging anniversary to you! Now you’ve got me thinking how long it is since I began blogging Karma, although I do remember that I started out by wanting to post recipes that I had collected over the years. I soon became bored with that, not bored with cooking, but bored with limiting what I said to just cooking related topics, so I expanded and now write whatever I feel like!
Sharing the simple day to day lives of those in other parts of the world is what I enjoy about blogging. It’s just like having pen-pals when we were kids, but now we don’t have to wait days, or weeks, for the mail to arrive! I enjoy seeing your changing seasons, (which are always the opposite season to mine!), hearing about your families activities and it’s even fun seeing your kitchen in the middle of a baking day (so like my kitchen when I bake!) Your photo hunts are always fun too, even if I don’t participate, as I love seeing the photos. 🙂

Thank you Joanne. I do enjoy my peek at the world “down under” when I read your blog – you are right, it is like having pen pals, but no need for envelopes and postage!
I haven’t done a photo hunt in a while now. Maybe I should think about one for the nicer weather.
Comment by Karma — April 7, 2013 @ 6:56 pm |
Another photo hunt would be great! And if it involves any weather related photos, I think I’ll be all set, as our autumn is very similar to your spring. 🙂

Happy blooging anniversary, dear lady 🙂 Its unfortunate that I arrived here only few months ago and I miss the stories from all the three huge years of you into blogging. Well,
What keeps me coming over to yours is the creative photography, the awareness of life oceans & oceans across, where you live, the inspirations that you put in, the thoughts you share. Of course, knowing different people across different countries, interacting with them and thus adding more colors to our life, is fun too right?
Hope you have a nice day Karma!

Thank you Sonali. If you were ever interested in any older posts, my archives are listed over there on the side bar that says “Find Past Months Here”. You are right – it is fun to meet people around the world, if only in cyber-space. 🙂

Happy Blogiversary! I like your blog as it is, as I really enjoy the everyday and learning more about you. Can’t wait to see what spring brings to your part of the world. And I do enjoy the photo hunts. You make them lots of fun. 🙂

Thanks Robin. It is finally feeling like spring around here, at least for a few days. Not much to take pictures of, but I’m hoping for inspiration to strike. I don’t know if the photo-hunt inspiration will return, but I won’t rule out the possibility.

I think we have the same kitchen floor ! lol I wish I’d gone with WordPress and not Blogger, clearly WordPress takes better care of their folk.
Photo hunts are always fun.
Comment by sybil — April 8, 2013 @ 9:23 am |
That’s funny about the floor, Sybil. WordPress is pretty user friendly if you ever wanted to switch, and I think you could probably archive your Blogger posts somewhere on WordPress.

Happy anniversary! I have that same remodel/decorate thing going with my kitchen. Floors, paint cabinets, glass tile backsplash – maybe next year. Good luck to you on your wishes.
Comment by Carol — April 9, 2013 @ 1:43 pm |
Thanks Carol. I don’t have a lot of faith in my wishes coming true, but I can always hope, right?

Happy anniversary! I love reading just about anything you write. LOVED your photo hunts when you used to do those…maybe between us we can come up with an idea or two. You have more photography readers than me…so would make more sense to start it on your blog. And I love your bird photos…and your girls of course. I hope you get your new floor, that will make you almost has happy as the hot tub. Well. probably not…but I was trying to cheer you up! 🙂
Comment by Dawn — April 11, 2013 @ 9:12 pm |
Thanks Dawn. I’ve been trying to give photo-hunting some thought, but I’ve been distracted quite a bit lately it seems! Another school vacation begins tomorrow, so I will try harder. Looks like some other things are going to have to take precedence over my new floor (and the hot tub, not that I believed I was ever really getting one of those!).

Félicitations Karen ! I enjoy visiting your blog and reading about what is going on in your life. Sometimes it is happy, sometimes less, but it is your life. I also love your nature photos, flowers, birds and the images of your vacation at the sea. Very exotic to me. I like your natural way of sharing views, thoughts, family life, events and for all of it, I say “merci beaucoup” 🙂

Merci, Isa. Oui, this blog could be called “C’est la Vie!” I’m happy to have made your “blog acquaintance” as well. 🙂

Enjoyed your little peek. Happy blogging anniversary! To think that it’s been three years… Smiled at your kitchen baking scene. It’s a mess when I’m a’cooking, too! The floor’s probably a mess, too. Barry comes behind and tries to clean up if he’s anywhere near the kitchen because he can’t stand it. Maybe we can call it “kitchen art”…
Comment by Kathy — April 21, 2013 @ 12:04 pm |
Thanks Kathy! That scene of baking is an extraordinary mess – the day before Thanksgiving, I believe it was taken.
