Desperately Seeking Springtime

Like so many of us in the northern parts of this country, I am more than ready for springtime warmth to take over. The sun actually came out today, but the beautiful blue skies might fool one into believing that it was warmer outside than the thermometer displayed.

Those blue skies and visible sunshine lured me outside with my camera in a hunt for any possible signs of spring around my yard. I was surprised to find a few.
The snow is thankfully melting and I’m hoping we are done with accumulating snow for the season.

At the edge of my yard, where the snow banks were, I noticed an array of shapes were left behind.

The more I looked, the more I noticed a little menagerie lined up at the edge of my lawn. Can you guess what I saw? Leave your guesses in the comment section and I’ll tell you what I saw in my next post.

In addition to the melting snow, I found
daffodil shoots

lilac buds

iris sprouts

rhododendron buds

new chives
spring chives
and tree buds
red buds on blue sky
I’m trying very hard to convince myself that weather that feels like spring isn’t too far away. The birds that were singing while I was outside today seem to believe it is true. It is time, Old Man Winter, to release us from your clutches!

  1. Amen to that, sister! We had snow today to wind up the kids’ spring break. Blech!

    • We finally have a blue sky here today, and the beginnings of the feeling of spring temperatures – mid 50’s. Not great, but I will take it!

  2. Not sure about the first one (a turtle, maybe), but the second looks like a fish, the third a squirrel, the fourth a turtle (I have turtles on the brain today…lol!!), and not really sure about the last one. I’m not very good at finding things in clouds (or inkblots) either. I think I’m missing part of the imagination gene. I love your signs of spring. We had similar weather yesterday. It looked like it should be warm outside, but it wasn’t. I think it’s time for Old Man Winter to go, too (I write that knowing full well we have snow on the way tonight — peh!). I hear April is going to be a warmer than usual month. 🙂

And how do you know the names of all these flora? That’s really good, We can learn so much about nature from you. Thank you very much. I wish i could join you with photography, I actually imagined how the air would feel like in your weather now.

    • These plants I’ve shown all live in my yard, and I’ve planted most of them myself – that makes it easy to know their names. 🙂

  5. Yesterday was a beauty albeit with a nip in the air. My kids played outside most of the day. I have crocus in bloom! It’s coming, the warmer weather.

    • Being patient for spring is so difficult! I’m trying very hard to appreciate the nice days here and there as they come.

  9. I can feel some spring energy here on your post, Karma! Now will go look at your shapes and see what you’ve come up with. It’s kinda fun to play games like this. (P.S. We have a BIG melt going on here. Drip, drip, drip…)

    • Thank you Kathy. I hope your snow is still melting – last time I had a look over at your place, you were still in it “crotch deep” in some places! 😉
