7 Things about Me, Day 6

“I went from Phoenix, Arizona, all the way to Tacoma,

Philadelphia, Atlanta, L.A…..”

– Steve Miller

Actually, that’s not true.  I’ve seen woefully little of this fabulous country we live in.  I’ve lived in Massachusetts my entire life, the grand majority here in this little town in the western part that Bostonians believe to be the residence of dragons apparently:

I’ve spent wonderful times visiting Maine,

Connecticut,

Rhode Island,

Rosecliff

New York,
Central Park, NYC

Pennsylvania,

and Florida,

as well as California and North Carolina, with some short jaunts to Vermont and New Hampshire.  But there is so much more that I really want to see!  The Great Lakes, the Grand Canyon, the Rocky Mountains and Alaska for starters.  I have a little dream in my head to some day take a cross-country photography trip, stopping wherever and whenever I like.  Sometimes I’ve thought it would be best to take the trip alone so that I didn’t have impatient passengers waiting at every stop, but now I’ve started to wonder if it would be better to go with someone who loves photography as much as I do.  Any takers? 😉

  1. You really do need to get out more………….. 🙂

  2. It’s always a balancing act, isn’t it – wanting to stop to investigate when everyone else is anxious to get to wherever. This can happen to me while I’m on my way to lunch with someone else. It would be interesting to see how a Magical Mystery Photography Tour worked out. I know where you could find a local tour guide for the Great Lakes . . .

    • I hope to be able to take you up on that tour guide offer some day Gerry! 🙂

  3. I’ll take you up on that! Although when I was a kid we moved a lot (I went to 35 schools and was in 38 states), I would like to now amble through the country, like you, stopping where and when I felt like it. My kids would be great traveling like this companions, I think. I also think I need to live at least 50 more years to do all that I want.

    • Wow, 35 schools in 38 states! That couldn’t have been easy. I agree – I’ll need to live a good, long, healthy life to do everything I’d like – although I don’t know that it would all be financially feasible.

  4. I LOVE your map! Too funny! I’ll go along on that photography journey! That would be so much fun!

    • Isn’t that cute? And not too far off from how Boston folks think, either. I’m thinking this photo-trip could be do-able in the not so distant future; a few years from now in the summertime maybe.

  5. Follow your dreams! Follow your dreams! Follow ’em right into a few more states…although, gosh darn, I agree with Becky Sue, love that map.

    • I hope to, I hope to! Maybe a few years from now, in the summertime, when my girls are just a little older and doing “their own things.” That map is pretty funny, isn’t it? And probably pretty close to how those Boston people think!

  6. There is something wonderful about travelling alone. You can stop when you want and stay as long as you like. Take a dog. Great company and they never complain, about ANYTHING. 😉 Time to visit exotic foreign countries… like … ummm … Canada. Specifically, Nova Scotia. Ya gotta visit the Bay of Fundy. 45 foot tides are something to be seen !

    Love that map.

    • Yes, I agree! Parts of Canada should definitely be part of the trip. There’s a boat that sails overnight, I think, from Bar Harbor, Maine to Nova Scotia. I’d like to try that sometime.
A dog would definitely be a great companion, but then you have to limit yourself to the pet-friendly places to stay along the way!

  7. Wow, I really HAVE seen more of the country than you, and I’ve only been here for 25 years! (This month actually!)

    • Well, gee, I’ve only been an adult for 24 years… 😉

  9. I consider myself to be a homebody but I’ve been to more places than YOU! Oh, well. Must be ‘cuz we live in such a great state! 🙂

Your upcoming cruise, then, is really stepping outside your comfort zone! And, yes, it is difficult travelling and wanting to take photos when others are less enthused. I’ve just about given in and rarely take a camera anymore. Sad, really.

    Comment by milkayphoto — February 13, 2012 @ 10:03 am | Reply

    • It isn’t that I haven’t always wanted to travel more, I just haven’t felt able to travel more due to my situation in life. This cruise isn’t out of my comfort zone – it is something I’ve been wanting to do for a VERY long time!

I still think you and Becky and I need to plan that photography meet-up sometime in the nice weather!

      Comment by Karma — February 13, 2012 @ 4:37 pm | Reply

      • Ah, that makes sense. 🙂

Yes, it would be great to get together! I know in the past you’ve also talked about wanting to come to my neck of the woods. Could be dangerous…most likely we’d end up at the pool, sipping cocktails and noshing rather than taking photos! 🙂

        Comment by milkayphoto — February 13, 2012 @ 5:36 pm

      • Sipping cocktails by the pool doesn’t sound too bad either! 😉

  10. By the way, I think you live in the Midwest. Look – the little dot for Holyoke is on the other side of the line and you are further east. There may be dragons though in my backyard along with the turkeys, bears, fisher cats, coyotes, et al.

    Comment by JenniferA — February 15, 2012 @ 10:54 pm | Reply

    • Yes, I thought about that after I posted it. The “midwest” is faint and I didn’t really pay attention to the names of the cities close to the border. There very well could be dragons in your backyard! 🙂

  11. I’ll go with you. Just stop by Ohio on your way west and I’ll gladly join you. 🙂

I love what you did with the map.

    Comment by Robin — February 16, 2012 @ 8:46 am | Reply

    • I think you’ve seen much more of this country than me too, Robin! I bet you’d be a great guide to have along.
