7 Things about Me, Day 2

Filed under: Uncategorized — Karma @ 6:00 am

I was crazy skinny in high school.  I was accused of being anorexic from time to time.  Nothing could be farther from the truth.  I just had that metabolism that pretty much allowed me to eat whatever I wanted.  My mother used to say that I would eat “anything that wasn’t tied down or rotten.”  I am 5 feet, 8 1/2″ tall – in high school I weighed 114 pounds.  One of my great friends throughout school, Matt, who was also tall and skinny,  and I would talk about going to Friendly’s to drink Fribbles in attempt to gain weight.

As evidence, my senior prom picture:

And yes, in case anyone who doesn’t know was wondering, that is indeed dear hubby in the picture with me.

  1. Aw, what a sweet photo! I married my HS sweetheart, too! (We look about 12 in our prom pic, though 😉 ). Can’t say that I had your metabolism problem ( I wish!)

    • Thank you. I don’t know if you can really call us HS sweethearts. We didn’t go to school together (he’s 3 years older than me and went to the local Catholic HS) and we met during my senior year. Believe me, I wouldn’t mind having that metabolism back!

    • Funny how those numbers stick in our minds, isn’t it?

  3. The skinny thing is both curse and blessing. When I was in high school, I was 5’11” tall and weighed 132 – as an adult I maintained that weight, unless I was in a very stressful period when I’d go down to 124. Now, as a mature retired person, I weigh around 150, and I think all of those extra pounds are in the midsection. Holy Toledo, where did my waistline go?!

    • It’d be nice to have some of that youthful metabolism back sometimes, wouldn’t it?

  4. I’ve STILL got the same metabolism… It’s just that these days my body doesn’t entirely agree… That’s my excuse anyway… Sweet pic Karen… 🙂

  6. Love the Senior Prom photo. You look too young to be a senior.

My metabolism was the same. I was skinny and ate whatever I wanted. Now, at age 60 (ish), I’ve developed that same “tire” … Can’t say I like it much … 😉

    • Thanks Sybil. Same tire? Same tire as who? 😉

  7. Aww, look at you!! 🙂 You haven’t changed THAT much since then.

I was always really skinny, too, as a kid. Skin & bones pretty much. Lucky my mom could sew, because pants and skirts would always be too big around the waist and she would have to alter them.

    • How sweet for you to say Michaela. I’m having a difficult time wrapping my head around the fact that that picture was taken nearly 25 years ago!!!
