A Dusting, a Headache, and some Cookies

Weird blog post title, huh?  That’s about how my day went today.  I went to bed last night wishing with all of my might for a delay for the start of the school day.  Our area was under a “winter weather advisory” from 1am this morning to 1pm this afternoon, calling for anywhere from a “coating to 2 inches of snow” with possible icing.  Ah!, I thought, perfect conditions for a delay!  Delays are the best!  You can sleep in a little later, maybe have an extra cup of coffee at home, a good fraction of the day is done when you get to work, and it still counts toward the required 180 days of school!  Imagine my disappointment to be awakened by the sound of my alarm clock at its normal time rather than by the Connect-Ed phone call announcing the district’s delayed start of school for the day.  For this was all that was on the ground:

It was wet and slushy, but hardly treacherous.

Mid-morning at work found me with a headache.  Not a debilitating, can’t-do-my-work kind of headache, but one of those annoying, nagging headaches that just makes you constantly aware of its presence – do you know the sort that I mean?  I stumbled through the rest of my day and made it home no worse for wear, but with the nagger still present.

Feel-sorry-for-myself-me wanted to lie down and take a nap with a dog or two and a fluffy blanket.  Get-off-my-sorry-butt me decided no.  We would make cookies instead!  Cookies make everything better, don’t they?

Oatmeal-raisin-chocolate chip cookies, to be exact.

Hmmph, I’ve eaten a couple and the nagger is still there… maybe I need more?  Or something else perhaps?

Anyone remember this post? Yup, they’ve got ’em for Valentine’s Day now too.  I was negligent in not pointing out that Sweetarts Ornaments Gummies were available last month!

Weird post to go with a weird title, wasn’t it?  Thanks for reading the ramblings of a mad woman.  I think I need some more cookies…

  1. A fun and interesting post, Karen. 🙂

  3. You need a glass of water and to lay off the sugar candies !

and you need to share those cookies with ME !

    • Lay off the candy??? That’s like asking me to lay off coffee, LOL!

  4. OMG, I was at Target today and saw those SweeTarts gummies!! Proud to say that I didn’t buy them (didn’t even look at what flavor they are) (the chocolate was REALLY begging me to take it home, and I said “NO” to that, too!).
Your cookies look really yummy 🙂 And the snow!! I was sooo wishing for snow here, today. It was 29 degrees this morning and we barely made it into the 40’s by afternoon, but of course there wasn’t a snowflake in sight.
Hope you’re able to get rid of your headache asap.

    • The Valentine gummies were good, but I liked the bunnies better – more flavors. All things in moderation, I say. 🙂
      Headache seems better today, thanks.

  5. It just so happens that I watched an episode of Doctor Oz that dealt with headaches and some natural remedies, I’ve included a link to a video, with any luck it can help with your headaches

  6. Sybil’s right – no more sugar.
Here, have a nice hot cup of tea.
Let’s put this lavender sachet on the back of your neck.
    Now lean back . . . we’ll rub your temples a little . . . ahhhh.
    Sweet dreams.

    • Your remedy sounds nice, Gerry, but I’m not a big fan of tea. If it was a fruity flavored one with plenty of…. wait for it…. sugar … that would be okay! 😉

  7. Cookies sound so good! I may have to make some tomorrow. It’s all your fault! No school Monday, right? Woohoo!

    • Oatmeal is nutritious right? And so are raisins, right? So oatmeal cookies = nutrition! Ta da! No guilt! 😉 And yes, woohoo to no school Monday – although it is going to be really cold this weekend. That doesn’t bode well for me for getting some good photography time in. 😦

  8. There are those days when only cookies, chocolate or wine (maybe some of each) makes the day tolerable. We do what we must!

    • I got the cookies and the chocolate – that must be what I was missing – the wine! 😉

  10. I thought for SURE you guys got slammed! Must have been more confined to the mid part of the state. We only had rain, just LOTS of it.

I like the way you think…cookies cure just about anything. 😉

    • Oh did part of the state get hit? I didn’t really here about that. I assumed it was just the folks to the west of us – NY state, Michigan, Ohio.
Cookies are a great cure for what ails you! Except now I plan to spend some extra time on “Wii Fit” this weekend!

  11. Oh yes, cookies definitely make everything better. 🙂 Glad you didn’t get hammered with a ton of snow. I know you could use a break out your way.

I’ve been thinking of making oatmeal cookies with butterscotch chips in them. For a change of pace.

    • When in doubt, make cookies! 😉

  12. Awww, Ms. Karma, I am so sorry you didn’t get a snow day. 😦 My gosh, to have to bolster yourself up with cookies! 🙂 I thought our school might be cancelled on Friday so I went in to work on Thursday instead. Turns out there was no cancelling of school–even though we got a FOOT! Hope you are feeling fine & dandy this weekend.

    • Oh I didn’t want a full snow day. Just a delay – we don’t have to make up delays in June! Now, if we should happen to get a snow day or two during the February break that they took away from us because of the crazy October snowstorm, I wouldn’t mind that! I can’t imagine school not being cancelled for a foot of snow!! You must be hardy folks up in those woods.

      • Sometimes we’re hardy…sometimes we’re just plain wimps. I hope you saw my LONG response to your comment yesterday about photos!
