Après Noël

“After Christmas” sounds prettier and more exciting in French, doesn’t it?  Not that I’m having an exciting day here; I needed a day to kick back and relax after all the work and activity of the past few days.

Daphne here gives you the idea of what I’m feeling like today.  Weeks of build up and preparation, over in a short time, leaving you feeling wiped out!  I’m very grateful for having my family around me in my home for Christmas, but as the busy hostess, I’m sad to tell you I forgot to take pictures most of the day!

I did receive some fun photography gifts from my dad:

I’ll spend some much needed quiet time over the next few days reading through that book and on the B&H website deciding how to spend that giftcard.  I have an idea in mind, but I haven’t decided yet.  My purchase may have something to do with this:

This is something that has been in the planning stages for a few months now.  We just made it official a few days before Christmas and booked a family cruise for the April school vacation week.  Hubby and I cruised for our honeymoon (almost 20 years ago!!!) and the girls have never been.  I’m considering using my giftcard to purchase an inexpensive, waterproof, point & shoot camera for the trip.  The girls’ “extra special” Christmas gift this year was a promise to swim with dolphins when our ship docks in Cozumel, Mexico, and you know I will need pictures of that!

I hope your Christmas brought you special joy and memories.  Remember to work on your December Photo Hunt too!

  1. How fortunate you are. B&H is one of my favorite “toy stories”. 🙂

    • Toy stories – easy mistake to make! 😉 In fact, my hubby’s nickname at work came from the first “Toy Story” movie; everyone thought he looked like Buzz Lightyear!

  3. Hey! I recognize those fuzzy sheets!! Each of my kids received a set yesterday! 🙂 They’ve been begging for fuzzy sheets for weeks after feeling ours.
How exciting about the cruise!!! We are foregoing a big vacation (other than the Ocean City Annual trip with my family) again this year in the hopes of finally being able to take care of our renovations. A cruise sounds wonderful though! 🙂 Excited for you!!

    • Isn’t that funny about the sheets? I’d never seen them before my mother-in-law gave a set to each of my girls yesterday!
I’ve been wanting to take the girls on one more “big vacation” before I run out of time – Meghan is a junior in high school this year and before we know it she will be off to college; getting everyone together for a vacation then won’t be so easy. I feel very fortunate to be able to make these plans!

  4. Hi Karen! Waving “hi”…gosh, thinking of you this in-between week and hoping all is well. I have been thinking a lot about Christmas expectations, and how our Christmas-times are so often a mixture of emotions, both happy and sad. Love to you!

    • PS I forgot to express total delight about your cruise. How fun is that!!

      • Hey Kathy! Guess what? Your first comment here was my 5000th comment of all time! A milestone, LOL – of course almost half of those comments are me talking back to everyone, but a milestone is a milestone, right? I wish I had a little prize to send out to your little house in the big woods! 🙂
Christmas is certainly a time of mixed emotions. My husband has had to work on Christmas for many years – it has been a long time since he had that day off – so there is always that little tinge of sadness too. But we try not to dwell. And now I can begin looking forward to our big trip – 111 days away according to the counter at Carnival.com!

  5. We braved the crowds at Holyoke! It wasn’t too bad but I had a few exchanges to take care of. That book looks great and how exciting to have a gift cert. to B&H! A cruise sounds like fun, I’ve never been on one. Can’t wait to see your pics.

    • Exchanges on Boxing Day, huh? I’ve wondered if that has anything to do with the Canadian holiday, LOL. I can’t wait to TAKE pictures on the cruise! 🙂

  6. Oh how fun! The cruise sounds fabulous! Swimming with dolphins is definitely on our list; I look forward to seeing your photos. My brother, a professional photographer, has an Olympus that he uses for underwater photography — it takes great shots! Enjoy your new toy that you choose with your gift card!

    • Thanks so much Andrea! I had Olympus cameras for a few years before I made the big switch to my Rebel. I’m going to try to do a little research before I make my choice.

  7. Looks and sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas! 🙂
Any chance you could bring an extra suitcase on that cruise with ME in it? 😉

    • Thanks Michaela – it was a good day, and I really love having something so exciting to look forward to. Did you know that we have to pay extra for suitcases? Darn airlines!

  8. Swimming with the dolphins! Oh, how neat that would be. And definitely a pictures required activity. I love the title of the book “Visual Poetry” – it is that, isn’t it?

    Comment by Carol — December 28, 2011 @ 9:46 am | Reply

    • I hope they let me take a camera with me to the dolphins! And I agree – “visual poetry” is a great way to think of photography.

  9. Looks like Santa (and your family) were very good to you (and your family) this year. Swimming with dolphins is something I’d love to do. And yes, you MUST take pictures. 🙂

    Comment by Robin — December 28, 2011 @ 6:51 pm | Reply

    • We did have a very nice Christmas, Robin. I just can’t wait to “swim with the not-fishes” LOL!

  10. Your tree is HUGE! Looks like you were a VERY good girl this year as Santa treated you quite nicely indeed! 🙂

Cruises are so much fun! You unpack ONCE and yet, you travel to all different locations! What’s not to love about that?? I remember snorkeling in Cozumel in the bluest, lovliest water I’ve ever seen. We swam with dolphins in Florida – such amazing creatures! My only issue with it was they don’t allow you to wear sunglasses and since I have contact lenses, the sun glare off the water was horrible for me! So, my advice is to invest in goggles (they allow those since the playful dolphins can’t knock them off of you!)

Have fun spending that gift card!
