Finding Warmth on a Cold Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — Karma @ 4:53 pm

Brrrrr…. I don’t think the temperatures got out of the 20’s here today.  With the exception of a few raw, cool days, the weather locally has been very moderate as we prepare to officially say goodbye to autumn.  I won’t say that I welcome winter – by I will try not to be too grumpy about its return if we can maybe strike some sort of deal with Mama Nature.  For whatever reason, my little corner of the world seems to have been on her …less favored side this year.  I’m hoping she got it out of her system and might see her way to gracing us with just a few gentle dustings of snow this time around.

Here’s someone who doesn’t see to mind the cold:

The reason I’d actually ventured out into the cold was I noticed an interesting pattern of frost.. unusual for 4:00 in the afternoon, wouldn’t you say?  I thought it might make a nice shot for my photo hunt, but meh.. I’m not thrilled with it.  Will continue to keep my eyes open.

But then a completely different shot drew my attention away:

My neighbor’s decorative tall grass looked warm and inviting in the setting sun – a total antithesis from the way I was feeling.  Like a cat luxuriating in the glow of a sunny window, my thoughts turned to those days that I love so much, but that feel so very far away right now.

  1. Hey, Karen, Neat pictures. Very “cool”. 🙂

  2. The only solace I have is that each day that goes by is one day closer to spring. In fact this morning it feels downright balmy, at 34! 🙂 I’d be happy if it stayed like this until mid-March.

    • My thermometer claims it’s 40 out right now, but I don’t know if I believe it!

  3. My friends and I had this discussion yesterday – we unanimously agreed that 31 this year is colder than 31 was last year. As to frost pictures – we have frost on the trees and ground every morning, but nothing of any real interest. I too am still watching. In the meantime, I love the pictures of your neighbor’s grasses.

    • Once it gets below freezing, I don’t know if I can tell anymore – or if it really matters! 😉
We might have to get a little creative when it comes to the frost shot, which of course is totally okay in my book, even encouraged!
      Thanks Carol.

  4. Yes, brrrr is right! I haven’t vetured out…it will warm up on Tuesday so errands can wait until then.

CUTE snowman! The grass pics are really fantastic!

    • Did you see the pictures of the snowman glowing his 3 different colors in the earlier post? He’s a real cutie – and only $10 at Walgreens!
Thanks Tracy – I like the grass pictures too; I feel like they should be in a collage or something. Maybe I’ll think of something to do with them.

  5. Gorgeous photos of the fronds! I’ve been noticing them a lot lately but nowhere near my camera. Today felt super warm after yesterday’s chill.

  6. What a CUTE little snowman!!! ♥ I think there will be one under the Christmas tree for me, from my best friend. One of the little presents has a little orange carrot nose poking through the wrapping paper 🙂
    Love the “glowing” grasses, too.

  7. Frost as in finding some is becoming an issue for the Photo Hunt. Of all things, it’s not cold enough around here. The morning we had it, I was late for work and did not have the time to photograph it. Might have to get creative if it continues to stay above freezing.

Your snowman is cute and made me smile. Infectious little guy.

    • Same here, Scott! Never thought finding frost in December would be an issue!! I have a back-up thought in mind though.
That snowman is a cheerful sort, isn’t he? 🙂

  8. Those grass shots are gorgeous. Warm, in spite of the cold day. I love that snowman. 🙂
