Best of, Part 5

We’ve arrived at the final installment of my favorite photos of 2011.  This was kind of a long series, wasn’t it?  I hope you know that it isn’t that I think I’m so great that I needed five posts of my favorites, LOL!  It is partly my indecisiveness and partly my deep love of photography.  It is a hobby that brings me great joy; that great joy is multiplied several times when I manage a shot I’ve been coveting or one that I believe has come out beautifully.

I mentioned yesterday that there were two posts that helped to sway me to write this last post in the series.  The first was this one by Kathy.  Kathy is changing her ways a bit with regard to her blogs.  She’s made the decision that she is going to be more selective about her choices for blog posts.  She asked some cutting questions about whether she should blog about what would please others to read or stick to choices closest to her heart ( I hope I am explaining this okay Kathy!)  Then I popped over to Danielle’s blog to see her “Best of” assignment for Scott.  She has some truly compelling moments captured in her favorites.  Her most wonderful shots, in my humble opinion? The ones with her children in them.  She has a way of capturing these shots that make me sure we are getting a glimpse into their personalities.

And that, dear readers, is what I’ve been trying to decide about.  My children.  Of course, they are beautiful to me, but perhaps the rest of you would not find their photos to be as interesting as I do, so I hesitated to include them in my “best of” series.  However, if I am true to my heart, my girls need to be included in my best, because they are the best thing I’ve ever done in my life.

I’ve chosen three of my favorite shots of each of my daughters and created a collage for each:

This is part 5, my final post in my series for Scott’s assignment to show your best of 2011.

  1. Aw, thank you for those beautiful words and the shout out. It IS hard to know whether or not others will enjoy photos of our children…we are incredibly biased as parents, aren’t we?! 🙂 I guess that’s where Kathy’s “who do I write for?” comes in. I’ve said before, I write for me…the fact that other people come and read it is a much appreciated bonus on my part. I love my readers/blogging friends, but I never have the thought, “will anyone want to read this?” in my mind when I write. If I’m compelled to write, I write…
So, I guess what I am getting at is, I’m so glad you posted these pictures FOR YOU! The fact that I get to enjoy your beautiful girls is just an added bonus. 🙂 I have always loved the prom shot (LOVELY) and the photo of your daughter eating pizza (personality galore!)
I’ve enjoyed all your posts this past week…what a fun look back. I would love to recapture some of the excitement I felt my first year owning my Nikon (D40 at the time.) Now I know enough to know that I don’t know enough! lol Along with my health, motivation is returning. I think 2012 could be a good year. 😉

    • I love what you said here Danielle (is it okay to call you Danielle here? Kanniduba seems funny to me now, but I can use it of course!) I hope 2012 is a good year for us all! Thanks for reading these past few days.

  2. I am delighted to see the pics of your girls, your heart-strings. They are all lovely. (And isn’t it wonderful that you have so many photos that you love and want to remember again?) It sounds like you said what I was trying to articulate, Karma, although I am still not 100% sure what I am trying to articulate. It’s not all about writing blogs for other people–mostly I write for myself, like KD. But there is a certain percentage of self (25%? ha ha, number person here) who does seem to be a people-pleaser. The 75% that is not just doesn’t care. I want to…make that 75% even higher? Don’t know. Seeing where this is going. And loving looking at your photography first thing this morning before work.

    • This blogging experience is an ever-evolving experience, isn’t it? I’m glad that I brought you a little delight this morning, and I am glad we all get to figure this blogging thing out together as we go along. Thank you Kathy.

  6. It’s not just about photography, it’s about the memories, too, so of course your “Best Of” series has to include pictures of your girls, too! 🙂

  7. How could you NOT include your girls?? They are clearly a huge part of you and your life. They will forever treasure all the photos you took of them. No one EVER says, ‘gee, I wish my mom hadn’t taken so many pictures of me!’ 😉

    Nicely done!

  10. Wow, five “best of” posts! I am impressed because you have the variety of images to select in these post, and they are wonderful. I am working my way back to all of them (since I was gone when they were posted). I am really glad that you decided to post these, because the whole idea is about what we see as ‘best’ and ‘favorite’, not which shots had the most comments. And I would be very, very suprised if you hadn’t included your children in your “best of” shots.

    • Welcome back, Ted. Thanks – and I hope you’re enjoying my “overload” of favorites! 🙂

      Comment by Karma — November 17, 2011 @ 4:14 pm | Reply

      • Certainly not an overload, just a plethora. How can one be oveloaded with beautiful images? Oh, would that I could suffer such an affliction! 🙂
