I don’t post a picture of myself very often, but I decided to post this one today for two reasons.  First, to say personally to those of you finishing up the Scavenger Hunt, I’m really looking forward to seeing your pictures!  Don’t forget to leave me a link to them.

Second, some of you may have noticed this is my new avatar when commenting on blogs.  I actually took this shot as my first assignment for Picture Inspiration, which I am sure you’ve now figured out, was a self portrait.

  1. How cute are you! Posturing, expression and composition are fantastic!

However, small crit would be that your eyes should be tack sharp as the eyes are the most important thing in a portrait. To me it looks like the entire image is out of focus. I know self-portraits are very tough to take. A tip is to place a tall stick in the position of where you will be, focus on THAT, then switch to manual focus to keep that focus point, use an aperture of at least 5.6 (F/8 might me better), use the self-timer, set mulitple shots, run into the shot and CLICK! Several shots will be taken.

I actually got some shots for the scavenger hunt – yippee! I will post before the deadline! 🙂

  2. You got me! I really had no idea how to sharply focus a self portrait. I decided to use the the A-Dep setting, the purpose of which I thought was to keep as much of the photo in focus as possible.

Looking forward to seeing some scavenger hunt shots.

  3. I don’t post photos of myself often, either! So far, my avatar is the closest that I’ve gotten. Very cute photo (love the pink)! It is nice to be able to connect a face with the writing! 🙂

  4. I noticed it, but couldn’t really see you. I’m so glad you posted it here so I could get a better look. You are lovely and that is a really cute self-portrait. Well done! 🙂

  5. When I took mine I placed the camera on a chair, sat on the floor facing the sun and reached over to press the shutter release. You should get a wireless remote, they are less than $30 and come in handy in situations where you would also like to be in the picture. I didn’t use mine because the battery is dead.

    • Yes, maybe I should look into a remote. I use the 10-second self-timer when I want to be in a shot.

  6. Out of focus or not, I still like it.
I don’t post pictures of myself very often either (because I usually hate pictures of myself), I prefer “special” self portraits like reflections, etc. 😉

    • Thanks, Michaela. I don’t usually like pictures of myself much either. I took a chance on a moment of sunshine with a snowy background in the hopes I could come up with something halfway decent.

  9. I like this picture of you, too. I wonder if we would recognize each other if we saw one another in–say–an airport?

    • Thank you Kathy. Maybe at the mall? Easier to catch people there. People in an airport are usually in a hurry! 🙂
