“The Magic Machine”

“Where would we be today if it weren’t for one of our most trusty companions? I’m referring to our computers. Today, we’ll be really looking at our coveted computers and focusing on our gratitude for the part of our daily life that so often goes overlooked. Today, find the beauty in the technical. Shoot the messenger, if you will and shed some well-deserved light on what makes it possible for you each and every day.”  Okay.  Yesterday, snow.  Today, computers? As much as I love getting my daily photo prompt, I’m starting to think our instructor is beginning to run a little dry on ideas.

Admittedly, this is the last of four of this style class; the “Picture..” series began last year with “Picture Spring” of which I wasn’t a part.  I followed Becky through “Picture Summer” and joined up for “Picture Fall.”  As always, creative license with the prompt is encouraged, but how creative can you get showcasing a computer? Here’s my take:

"Cat and Mouse"

I like how Cedric appears to have his “killer” instinct in place to pounce on the “mouse,” somewhat blurred in the foreground, and how the nifty-fifty seems to have once again shown that soft but sharp focus.  Sure the various cords in the shot are a bit distracting, but they are part of “the magic machine.”

  1. I am grateful for my computer. And your cat and mouse picture is precious! Especially with the picture on the computer like it is. 🙂

    • I’m grateful for the computer and the connection it provides. As photographic material? Meh. I’m glad Cedric obliged.
      Thanks Kathy.

  2. How perfect! I see the look in those eyes – it’s that look that says POUNCE!! I see that look every night on my 3 cats around 9-9:30 every evening (that’s when they get playful)!! I love your take on this prompt!! 🙂

    • Thanks, Holly. We call it “the rips” when cats get that strange nighttime craziness. We’ve always been a multiple cat household until recently, and always chuckled when they started ripping around at night. Now that it is just Cedric (plus the dogs), it doesn’t seem as rippy anymore!

  3. OK, Becky? Maybe your computer is a most trusty companion, but mine is a surly grouch and I wouldn’t trust it as far as I could throw it, which is something I have contemplated more than once in recent months. Of course, I haven’t done that . . .

Karma? Cedric is a cool cat. I hope he catches the mouse and does something creative with it.

    • Not that it matters the teeniest bit, Gerry, but to clarify, Tracyis the instructor who sends the the daily photo prompts and Beckyis a blogger from my little town here who I met in person because of blogs! Becky has been doing all of these photo prompts as well, and was the one who got me interested in doing the classes myself.

Cedric is indeed a cool cat- one of the friendliest boys you could ever ask to meet. Creative? Not so much. His main activities include sleeping on my bed, eating, sleeping some more, and sitting in my lap while I’m at the computer.

  4. As far as I’m concerned, anytime you can include Cedric in a photo it IS a winner! LOVE the ‘cat and mouse’ concept – very clever! I do, however, wish the mouse was more prevalent.

    • I agree it would have been better with the mouse being more obvious. This was one of those situations where I was just lucky to catch him in that “pounce” position, and the mouse even being in the shot was a happy accident.

  5. That has got to be one of the prettiest or handsomest cats I’ve ever seen! So who rules the roost? The cat or the dogs?

    • Cedric would probably prefer to be called handsome. Thank you. He is rather photogenic, and he has a sweet personality to go with his good looks.
Cedric is the “senior” pet in the house. He doesn’t really rule as his personality is quite passive. He never swats at or fights with the dogs, and the dogs just kind of leave him be. It is a luckily harmonious situation.

  6. Well done, Karen! I love my computer, and honestly, I don’t know what to do with myself if I can’t use it for any reason.
What kind of mouse do you have, is it corded? We have a laptop that we take on vacations, etc. and the mouse seems to have died yesterday… hoping it really IS the mouse, and not the laptop!!

    • Thanks, Michaela. The mouse is actually wireless. The cord you are seeing is for a little cooling device that sits under the laptop. It has a tendency to overheat, so this little unit helps prevent that.

  7. lol! I love it. Reminds me of Izzy (one of my cats) who likes to sit to my right and eye the mouse with thoughts of pouncing on it. I know she’s thinking about it because she’s done it a few times and now she hesitates because she knows I won’t let her back up on the desk if she plays with the mouse or the cord (she’s more interested in the cord, I think, than the mouse).

    Really well done! 🙂

And must add: I am very grateful for my computer. I tell it so every day.

    • Thanks Robin. Cedric is quite the character. He’s rather dog-like in his quest for attention, and in that he drools when you give it to him!
