What I do for my blog readers…

First for Michaela and Sara, who only received a mere 2 inches of snow, a snow angel:

Yup, I plopped myself down in my front yard so that my dogs wouldn’t jump all over me, and made a snow angel.  Figuring out how to take its picture wasn’t easy, nor was getting up from making the snow angel from 18″ of snow!  I took the plastic chair from my front step, plopped it into the snow, then stood on top of it to get the shot.

Next, for Brian, snow penguins:

Our snow was far too light and powdery for snowman, ball or penguin building, so I went looking for spots that might be turned into some sort of penguin with bottle caps for eyes and baby carrots for a beak.  The first shot I tried was an old dog house covered in snow.  It was alright, but I kept looking, and saw the girls’ old swingset with the plastic “tire” swing.  So I added my accessories and thought it was kind of cute!  Hope you like it, Brian!  😉

While I was out traipsing around my yard, Daphne and Teddy accompanied me.  They have been loving every inch of this snow fall and the yard has become their amusement park, complete with race tracks of their own making.  The faces and actions of the two of them I captured today had me laughing hysterically.  What must my neighbors be thinking?   Crazy laughter and snow angels from the lady of the house?  She must be losing it.  I think at least one other blogger, from the Writing Studio and Bait Shop, might get almost as much enjoyment from this slideshow as me:

Happy to do this!  Hope everyone enjoyed!

  1. Hilarious! LOVE your interpretation of snow penguins!!

I tried photographing a snow angel last winter (failed miserably). You did really well! I’ll have to try it again when I am able to actually GET into my back yard (my front yard is way to exposed to be trying stuff like this – lol! I’m thinking if I get out our large step ladder it might raise me up enough to get the entire angle in.

Your dogs look like they are having a great time! This snow should provide them (and you) days of entertainment! 🙂

    • I’d still like to try to get the snow angel from a higher angle, but I really didn’t want to drag hubby’s big ol’ heavy ladder out of the garage! Maybe if I can get him to take the outside Christmas lights down this weekend….

  2. Hahaha… Well there’s nothing like making the most of what’s around you… and you gotta love your swinging penguin, but I have to say he’s looking a bit chubby with his spare tyre… lol… Thanks Karen… 🙂

  3. Oh man, Brian – spare tire! Is tyre how you spell it over there or is that a typo?
    Glad you enjoyed!

  4. You’re so sweet to make that snow angel 🙂 Do you have a 2-story house? If so, you may be able to photograph it from an upstairs window. The tire swing penguin is adorable!
(We learned British English in school, and pretty sure tire is spelled the same there as it is here)

    • Nope.. It’s actually spelt “tyre” when you spell it in real money… lol… Tire is to grow weary or bored over here… but at least that’s not as confusing as all the completely different words you have from the real ones… 😉

      Comment by FS Photography — January 13, 2011 @ 5:05 pm | Reply

      • Hmm… we would say “spelled”.. another different one. Not as different as lorries and trucks I suppose. We may have confusing words, but you have some really strange slang that I’ve read! One can feel quite knackered trying to figure it all out.

        Comment by Karma — January 13, 2011 @ 7:13 pm

    • Nope, it is a 1-story ranch, so upstairs would mean the roof!

      • Lol.. Yeah I have to confess we do have some rather unique terminology over here… One difference that always gets me though are pants.. Over here, pants are mens underwear, and the weather can also be pants… lol..

        Comment by FS Photography — January 14, 2011 @ 2:40 am

      • That’s a strange one. What kind of weather is pants?

        Comment by Karma — January 14, 2011 @ 12:25 pm

      • If the weather (or anything else for that matter) is pants, then essentially it’s not very nice… lol…

  5. Well you were right, we just loved the slideshow. It would be nice to have a fenced yard where Miss Sadie and the Cowboy could tear around in the snow or the leaves. Freedom and security all wrapped into one glorious package! The penguin was creative, too – and I’m jealous of anyone who can make a snow angel and then get up without spoiling the whole thing.

    • The fenced backyard was my first requirement for dog ownership. I wanted to be able to just open the back door and let them go.
After I threw myself into the snow for the snow angel I did wonder if I’d be able to get up!

  6. Oh! Everything about this post is fun, fun, and more fun. You did a great job of getting up out of the snow angel. The last time I tried one I messed it up when I got up. Your creativity with the penguins is impressive. 🙂

  7. Very cute!! 🙂 Daphne and Teddy are getting as much enjoyment out of the snow as my boys are – gave me a smile!! 🙂

    • Thank you! The dogs are always good for a laugh!

  8. I love the slideshow of Daphne and Teddy. My favorite one is where Daphne is low to the ground chasing Teddy. You can almost tell how fast she is going! I love watching dogs in the snow, because for some unknown reason, they all love it!

    • Isn’t it just crazy how snow brings dogs to life? They crack me up. My favorite is actually the one with Teddy looking up at me almost like he’s smiling.

  9. Love the slideshow as did my kids! I absolutely love your penguin tire. That is SO creative! I’ve spent a lot of time in the snow these past two days and had a heck of a time getting up and out of it.

    • Thank you so much! The dogs are good for laughter during this weather. Your videos of Stella and the boys just cracked me up.

  10. Nice to see the Ol’ Gal can still keep up. Meaning Daphne that is! I can just picture you making snow angels by yourself in your front yard! Awesome! Of course you probably had nothing to worry about…the snow is so deep I bet no one could tell you were even lying in it!

    Comment by Renae — January 13, 2011 @ 8:54 pm | Reply

    • Yes – Daphne doesn’t seem like such a little old lady when it snows. Nice to see her act like the 5-year-old that she is.
I’m guessing my neighbors probably didn’t really notice me either – I didn’t notice anyone around when I took the big plunge!

  11. Oh how fun!!!! I have to tell you that I also made a snow angel on Wednesday but not because anyone asked me to, LOL! I was in the backyard playing with Ozzie and I couldn’t resist. The snow was just so fluffy and deep and it was already up to my knees anyway – not too hard to do a trust fall from that angle! Ozzie thought there was something wrong with me. 🙂

    • Thank you!
I’m sure my dogs would have thought it was pig pile time had I chosen to plop down anywhere near them!

  12. Love your snow penguins!!!!!

    • Thanks – I did my best with what I had available. Kinda stinks having all this snow and not being able to build with it!
