“Signs of Life”

“What kinds of things can you excavate that speak of these inner workings? Look for magic today. Of life. Of hope. Of beauty. Of all the wonder that is happening right under our noses.”  These were the words of Ms. Clark today.  Today in Western Massachusetts, we are having our first “real” snowstorm of the season.  School was cancelled. I’d say there’s somewhere in the ballpark of 15 to 18 inches on the ground.  I wondered, how, on a day like today, would I ever find something to go with Ms. Clark’s lovely words?  Well,  the excavation part probably wouldn’t be too hard, but I didn’t really think that was the type of photo the prompt was looking for.  After trying several different ideas today, this is the picture I took today that pleased me the most:

Teddy got to be my sign of life.  There was something about this shot of him lying in the middle of the snowstorm, taking  it all in.  Normally, Teddy is a very large force in our lives, but I think the perspective here makes him look small.

  1. Now that’s a pretty serious amount of snow.. Much more than the 5 inches that ground the UK to a halt last year.. Personally though, I think your sign of life should have been your very own snow penguin… although I guess Teddy does make for a very good substitute… but I’m still voting for a penguin to make an appearance, and given all that snow it should be an Emperor Penguin… 😉

Great shot btw…. Teddy looks completely bemused at where his garden has gone…

    • A snow penguin! Why didn’t I think of that? I’ll have to check the consistency of the snow over the next few days – it was quite light and powdery today with not much chance for a snow penguin to stick together.
Teddy did seem rather shocked today when he first stepped outside and found himself up to his belly in snow!

  2. It’s that massive amount of snow that makes him look small! 🙂
Sweet pic! I think you should lay down right next to the pool and make a snow angel for Sara. She wanted to make one on Sunday, but I had to tell her no because there really wasn’t enough snow, and the ground underneath was too muddy from the rain earlier that day.

    • That would be one deep snow angel! But I don’t have any snow pants!!! If I can convince one of my kids to do it, I will take a picture for sure!

  3. Woohoo! White-out! We just got the call about tomorrow. Are you off too? I hope so! Sweet, Teddy. Stella just adored the snow.

    • No call from East Longmeadow yet. I’m a little jealous! Saw that Springfield cancelled tomorrow too.

  4. You must have channelled today’s prompt as my little sparrow could qualify as a ‘sign of life’? On days like today, I wish I were a dog looking at this stuff as a big playground rather than a nuisance and back-braking work. I hope you guys are off tomorrow so you can build your army of snow penguins!

    • I’ll have to see if I can convince the girls to help me out – I have a snow angel request from Michaela and snow penguin request from Brian! Our snow was light and powdery yesterday so I don’t know if it will be building-quality snow.

  5. I really like the perspective on this, in both your photo and your words.

    That’s SOME snow. 🙂

    • Sure is some snow … hey, maybe it is my fault! I did just write about how our area hardly ever gets hit with this type of snowfall totals!
