I didn’t get around to posting yesterday’s photo prompt shot due to the fact that I spent most of the day at a party affectionately know as “Pig Out.” It is a tradition that has been going on for at least 20 years – none of the Pig Out participants are exactly sure what year it was when it started, but we’re just glad it did indeed begin! The point of the party is getting together with a small group that we just don’t get to see at Christmas time, and of course, pigging out. In addition to myself, the group includes my sister, our best friend Renae, our mother, Renae’s mother, Renae’s aunt, my children and Renae’s children. A friend recently asked how one gains rights to this exclusive club. One must be an original participant or be born into it! No boys allowed either. (Renae’s young son has a temporary pass that will likely be revoked when he is a teenager who won’t be interested in our girl talk anyway!)
“Texture Seekers”
Finding texture around the house was yesterday’s prompt, and lucky for me, Pig Out provided:
Chocolate covered strawberries, made by my mother. Delicious!
“Bundle Up”
Today’s prompt read: “Whether it’s based on comfort level or aesthetics, today’s prompt is to showcase something from your winter wardrobe and distill what it is that warms not only your body but your soul.” I chose these:
These gloves aren’t actually mine but I keep stealing them! My sister gave them to my daughter for Christmas, but I want them for myself! I love the “flip top” mitten that sets my fingers free for using the camera while I’m outside. I should really get a pair of my own, but I haven’t found a set anywhere and I suspect it will be more difficult to find them as winter goes on. I chose to present these gloves on a soft and fuzzy scarf that was knitted for me by Renae. How’s that for a post that came full circle?
I guess that means I’m not allowed to gate crash the party then… lol… I couldn’t think of anything better than a get together affectionately know as “Pig Out”… Sounds perfect… Are there any temporary passes on offer… 😉

It is most certainly a perfect day of food and friendship. Nope, this club is pretty exclusive. We have been known to occasionally feed husbands pathetically hanging around the outskirts as long as they don’t try to get in the middle of things!

Those strawberries were delicious! I want more. Do you think I can get Grandma to make them for my birthday?
Comment by Meghan — January 9, 2011 @ 6:19 pm |
I have a feeling Grandma can be pretty easily convinced to make things for her granddaughter.

Oh! The mittens/gloves! My husband bought me a pair for my birthday this past December and I LOVE them. They are the best birthday present ever. Ever. (And I bet they were the cheapest too…lol! But I have a don’t ask, don’t tell policy.) I like the way you presented them. Very warm and fuzzy. 🙂
The strawberries look yummy. And your “Pig Out” party sounds wonderful.
Psssstt… try jcp.com for the mitten-gloves. They have several varieties.)

Ooh, thanks for the tip Robin! I’ll have to check it out!

You know what I just found out? I’m your long lost sister!! See you at the next party, right? 😉 Those strawberries look soo good!
Those gloves are great, aren’t they? I bought a pair for myself last November AFTER my little visit to the Arboretum! I found mine at Kohl’s. They have the style where the mitten part buttons back, and another style that’s a pair of regular knit gloves with a pair of cut-offs over top. You can either wear them separately or together. That’s the style I chose. I’ll probably go back some day and buy a pair in the other style, too.

LOL Michaela! I didn’t realize I had long lost relatives!
Looks like I will have to try to get to Kohl’s soon – I did a gift certificate for Kohl’s for Christmas.

Sounds like a great party! I love parties. Those strawberries look delish! What does your daughter think about her gloves disappearing?

The strawberries were awesome.
Actually both of my girls got a pair for Christmas (from my sister…hey sis, you forgot me!!!) so if Meghan’s are in use, I’ll take Sarah’s!

Would you believe my oldest Piggie picked these out all by herself for me for Christmas? Same color too. I LOVE them! She (and Dad) got them at Target. I can check to see if ours still has any.

Wowee, the sources for the gloves are just flowing in today! Looks like I might have to get my own instead of stealing my kids’!

Now, how could one resist a party called ‘Pig Out’? – LOL!
I’ve thought about getting myself a pair of those mitten/gloves but feared they wouldn’t be all that warm in our very cilly temps. I just picked up some very warm, but thin, gloves from The North Face. I hope they keep my fingers from freezing!
Nice CLEAN fingernails! And, I have a similar scarf that my mom made for me – sooooooosoft and warm!
Comment by milkayphoto — January 10, 2011 @ 12:24 pm |
Clean yes, but I noticed after I posted the shot that my nails were uneven and that I’ve got a couple hangnails hangin’ around! 😉
Pig Out is a much-looked-forward-too tradition! We sometimes have a spring or summer “pig out” up at Pickity Place in Mason, NH. Ever been? It is quite wonderful, and probably wouldn’t be too bad of a drive for you.

I use those mitten gloves a lot this time of year. Whether I am outside shooting or doing a hockey game in a high school rink. They are great. A few years ago, I could only find them in outdoor sports stores as hunters use them. Today, you can find them everywhere. Why? In one word..”texting”. 🙂
Both photos show a nice use of depth of field, color and textures.

Thanks very much Scott! I was actually wearing those pilfered gloves while I was out shooting for your Four Season Photo Assignment yesterday!

I liked what you did with the photos very much, and I just loved the stories that went with them. I have a pair of those mitten gloves, but I don’t wear them much. I have very, very short little hands in proportion to their width, so the mitten part doesn’t fit right. I keep thinking that I should cut off the tops and sew them back on farther down!

I will absolutely make chocolate strawberries for your birthday Miss Meghan. I would really love to!!!!!
