Playdate for Pooches

Sorry about this blog going to the dogs a couple times in a row, but Teddy and Daphne were lucky enough to have their friend Angel stop by for a visit today.  Angel is a high-energy yellow lab mix, and she always gives Teddy a run for his money – and he definitely needed it today.  He has been rather mopey this week.  As some bitter cold temps dipped in for a visit this week, that made me, or anyone else in the family, pretty much unwilling to go outside and play or go for a walk.  The sun came out and it was a bit milder today,  so I ventured out for some pictures with our guest.

Teddy chases Angel for the beloved football.

Angel speaks softly and carries a big stick.

Daphne decided to stick with a small stick.

Break time!

Back inside the house, Angel’s mama wanted her to try on the antlers that Teddy wore a couple weeks ago.

This evening, Teddy and Daphne were pooped from their exciting visit!

In other news, I’m trying to be organized!  I am the hostess of Christmas dinner for the family next Saturday.  Just a week away, can you believe it?  So I started today trying to figure out what I need food-wise over the next 9 days (including tonight, which was Rustic Pizza from Papa Gino’s! Mmmmm)  See here’s my chicken-scratch plan I mapped out today:

I also negotiated with Meghan to get some house cleaning done while I am work next week.  We made a deal that works for both of us. Have I mentioned how jealous I am that our town’s school district is already out on Christmas break, while the district that I work for has to go all the way til Thursday?

I think I’m done Christmas shopping, but I still have to wrap.  Christmas Eve will be spent prepping, cooking and cleaning.  Today, I got around to putting up a downsized version of my Christmas Village:

More pictures and stories about the Village coming tomorrow!

  1. Lucky dogs getting to play with a friend! Stella would love that but she’s being neglected by the holiday buzz. When you do your Villages post link it up here: http://mortalmuses.blogspot.com/2010/12/9-muses-musing-village.html because their prompt for today is ‘village’ and you could win some beautiful Christmas books.

Tell Meghan that we will keep her in mind. Thank you!

    • You should bring Stella over one of these days. Teddy would love it too.
Thanks for the heads-up on the link!

  2. Now THAT is what I call a stick… lol… Not sure I’d entirely fancy the idea of throwing it for them to fetch though… Love your Christmas village, and that’s “downsized !?!”… Wow… What on earth did it look like before you downsized it ??…

    • Yes that is downsized. I think I own about 30 lit pieces – there’s about a dozen here. In the past I’ve used a wider board on the table, plus added extra “branches” of the village in other parts of the room or house. For example in 2008 (when I did my 365 photo project) I had 3 parts of the village. You can see them here, here and here if you are interested!

      • Wow… That’s pretty amazing Karen…

      • Thanks, Brian… it is a lot of work, but fun. If you decide to start a village sometime, email me for some tips I’ve picked up over the 18 or so years I’ve been collecting pieces!

  3. Angel’s mama here, what a great time Angel had, and she was tired last night which was a good thing. In typical lab fashion, she is raring to go this morning.

Thanks for a great visit and the Angel antlers picture.

    • Teddy had a great time too!
I think some of the other Angel pictures where she wasn’t looking right at the camera may have come out a bit clearer. I’ll send you some of the others.

  4. Fun pictures!! That is one big stick! It’s nice to see Teddy with another dog with as much energy as him. And that is too big for him to herd into a corner, LOL!

Good job on the meal planning! I didn’t quite do that this week but I did clean out and reorganize my freezer and write down an inventory – that is another thing that I find helps quite a bit.

    • Yes, Angel is a good match for Teddy. They are about the same size and compatible energy-wise.
We aren’t completely planned out for the week, but at least there are some ideas, and I started buying some things for Christmas. I’ll be back in the store before week’s end!

  5. The Village looks lovely, the dogs look rompy, the list looks organized, and I sure love those antlers! So cute!

    Comment by Kathy — December 19, 2010 @ 11:46 am | Reply

    • Thanks, Kathy. Not completely organized yet, but I’m getting there. I hope you’ll come back later for my next post about the story of my village.

  6. Certaily looks like they had a great playdate!

    • They had a great time. A big dog like Teddy needs his play time. Daphne is content most days to sleep on the couch.

  7. I never get tired of great dog pictures, and I never saw a dog with such a happy, lolly, tongue as Angel! She moves a lot like Miss Sadie. Teddy and Daphne look all in. I’ll bet you did too!

I always wanted a village like that, but everyone else in the household thought it was a silly thing to do–particularly given the quantities of other things that didn’t seem to get done! Someday I’m going to make one just for me. Maybe it will be an outdoor version. That way I won’t have to dust it.

    • Angel does have that long, goofy tongue!

I don’t dust the village! It is only out and about for less than a month (a lot less than a month this year since I was so late in putting it up) so it doesn’t accumulate much dust. It gets put away in its original styrofoam packings to prevent damage and dust during the year when it is in storage.

  8. Ssssshhhhh, don’t tell Cleo but you can post dog pics ANY day! 🙂

You will do JUST FINE with your Christmas dinner. I’m sure of it!!

    • I try not to let Cedric realize how often the dogs make it into the blog, so as to not hurt his feelings! 😉
Yeah, I’m not too worried about dinner on Saturday – we’ve been doing it for awhile, and it is only 10 people including us.
