A Party Day

Teddy was ready for a party! But, no, he didn’t get to go.  Daphne and Teddy had to be content with the new marrow bones they received as bribery for good behavior while we were to be out of the house for many hours.

Saturday was one of those days that I look forward to: one spent with great friends.  This group of friends has a unique relationship.  We are a group of five couples who have been friends for 20+ years. We started out as young singles, and now our teenaged kids are friends with each other.  It is a wonderful feeling.  We met up at one couple’s house for a Christmas get-together.

Their tree looked gorgeous set up in the big picture window, and gave me the chance to play a bit more with the 50mm lens.

Ooh! Christmas light bokeh! Yay, my first shot at it this year.

We had a great day of awesome food, good wine, a Yankee gift swap of “white elephants”, game playing ( I was introduced to “Apples to Apples” – have you ever played?  A ton of fun!) and laughter to the point of tears.

Ingredients for food made for pot-luck dinner: $23

Bottle of wine: $1o

Filling tank of gas before hour-long ride: $50

Day spent with the best of friends: Priceless

  1. How pretty – I LOVE it! Your new lens is working out very well for you!! 🙂

    • Thanks, Holly. Yes, I’m enjoying the 50mm very much! I keep forgetting to pop over to your place and check things out, so I think I’m going to add you to the blogroll to remind me!

  2. Oh, yes, Christmas tree lights make for great bokeh. Even when it’s not Christmas time (might want to keep that in the back of your mind before packing them away for next year). Lovely photos and I bet an even lovelier time with your friends.

    • Thanks, Scott. My own Christmas lights, however, are white, green and red, so I don’t think they’ll spend any extra time out in the open!

  3. Lovely captures. Beautiful Christmas lights bokeh. 🙂

    • Thank you, Robin. I’m sure there will be much more bokeh on the blog before this month is finished!

  4. Teddy looks adorable, and the tree is beautiful.
Sounds like it was a great party… how wonderful that you’ve all been friends for so long.

    • Thank you, Michaela. “Make new friends, but keep the old; one is silver and the other gold!” You are silver, Michaela! 😉

  5. Gotta love the Christmas bokeh! I am loving this lens and it isn’t even my camera, ha! There’s just somethign about that picture of Teddy – it has such softness yet clarity at the same time.

    • Thanks! You are so right – I’ve noticed that soft/clear thing going on too! I like it!

  6. Sounds like a ton of fun! I had been noticing that my photos weren’t as clear but I could fix it in editing. Today I took the filter off and holy cow it is dirty. I need to figure out how to clean it safely.

    • It certainly was a great day. UV filters are something I still haven’t invested in – I know I should. It is a good amount of protection for a small price. Do the filters have to come off each time you put the lens cap on?

  7. Teddy is adorable!!!! I so wish cats were as accomodating! 😉

Beautiful decorations all around. Sounds like a lovely time. Getting the house ready for a holiday celebration myself on the 18th. It is my favorite time of all!

    • Teddy wasn’t overly accomodating – that picture had to be snapped quick! Yes, cats would surely be disgusted with the idea of a costume.
Our tree is up but I haven’t done anything else yet. Starting to wonder if I will get to more than that.

  8. Deck the dog with boughs of holly, fa-la-la-la-laaaaa, la-la-la-la!

It’s a wonderful thing to have a group of friends like that. Rob the Firefighter grew up that way, too, and it’s a fine thing to watch a third generation of friendships forming.

    • ..and take the picture before he eats them, fa-la-la-laaaaa, la-la-la-la! 😉

I can’t (and don’t wish to) imagine a third generation yet -hopefully that is at least a dozen or so years away for us. 😉

  9. More lovely Christmas pics! Glad you have a nice group of friends to enjoy time with. But next time bring Teddy! Everyone would think he was adorable.

    • Ha, ha! Oh, my friends know Teddy, but he would be like a bull in a china shop! He’s better suited to outdoor gatherings.
