A Walk by Myself

As perhaps many of you did, I had this past Thursday off from work.  Thanks, Veterans!  You are appreciated for what you do.

Since I had the day off, I took advantage of some crisp, sunny, weather and actually went for a walk by myself.  I was in the mood for some quiet contemplating and picture taking, so I went out without the dogs and got in the car.  I drove just a short distance to a little place here in town that I don’t often give much thought to, Spec Pond.  Spec is short for “spectacle” because there are actually two small ponds close together that look like a pair of spectacles when viewed from above.  I explored this little, local recreation area and came away with some shots that made me happy.

A group of three.  What is it about the number 3?  Does it contain a certain magic?  As photographers, we always try to remember the rule of thirds.  Good or bad things are said to happen in three’s.  Three is always a special number in fairy tales – 3 bears, 3 pigs, 3 wishes.  And out of all the shots of the geese that I took this day, this one of the 3 geese I found most aesthetically pleasing.

Late afternoon shadow of photographer

It was a peaceful afternoon.  Andre and I spent some quality time together.  I’m trying out “Andre” for Camera’s name.  It was my sister’s suggestion and I think it is kind of cute due to this.  Although hubby tried to get my goat recently by saying he has named my camera “EWOT” – expensive waste of time!  I disagree!

  1. Beautiful photos!!! I love the one of the squirrel and also the sunlit leaves.

I’ll email you some recipes soon. We’ve all been sick, so as soon as we’re better I’ll send you some recipes.

  2. What a pretty area! I agree, there definitely is something to the number 3. I remember that commercial… that’s back when everyone thought that was his own natural, flowing hair!!

    • Hi there Holly! Thanks for stopping by. I don’t know if I ever realized that wasn’t his hair!

  3. EWOT – Lol! I, too, disagree but it’s funny all the same. Lovely photos with my fav. being the squirrel.

    • Laugh a minute, that hubby of mine! That squirrel gave me a laugh too.

  4. Backlit leaves, a squirrel. Miss Sadie just got back from a walk she took herself on. I swear, keeping dogs is like having an adolescent all over again. But now I can go to sleep.

Television is a waste of time. Photography is an investment of time.

    • Oh, boy, in that case I have FOUR adolescents in the house, LOL!

  5. If you enjoy it, it can’t be a waste of time…maybe he is just upset that he’s not the center of your attention all the time.
I wonder how he would feel if you left him at home alone for awhile and went out taking pics.
Think I would have to tell him that could be his new name if he’s not careful.

    • Hi there Raven! Thanks for stopping by. Luckily, hubby was only joking. He knows how much photography means to me and is happy that I’ve found a hobby I love. The comment about expensive probably came up because I told him I wanted a lens for Christmas! 🙂

  6. Wait, wait – that was a mess of a comment and I didn’t make the main point, which had to do with liking the leaves and the squirrel and the idea of a nice solitary walk on a sunny November day. I am having a bad brain day. NOW I can go to sleep!

    • Ha, ha Gerry! We all have bad brain days – but thank you just the same!

  7. I can defintely ‘see’ what mood you were in when you took these photos. You were ceretainly enjoying the serenity and peace of some time alone! I also feel like I took the walk with you. Very nice images!

If it matters (and it shouldn’t) I’m not a fan of ‘Andre’. How about Cam? 🙂

    • Thank you, Tracy. It was a very nice afternoon. I think I spent about an hour just meandering and shooting.

Honestly, I don’t know that I will really end up sticking with a name for the camera! It has become a little bit of a running joke over a few blog posts though – and I’m always one for trying to prolong the fun! 😉

  8. Isn’t it nice to get out by yourself… well… with a certain love!? 🙂
I love the first shot, it looks so peaceful.
And as for EWOT… expensive? Yes. Waste of time? NO WAY!

    • I do love those rare occasions to get out on my own. I found myself alone quite a bit this weekend while I was doing yard work, actually! Funny how that happens. 😉

Hubby is a tease, for sure. He will actually prod me to get out and use the camera if he thinks I’m moping about the house.

  9. I think a lot of us got out at the end of last week who live in the northeast. The weather was fantastic for this time of year. Those ponds are lovely and hold a bountiful amount of subjects for Andre and you. I hope you visit there often.

Don’t spread that EWOT name around. I am sure a lot of close relatives and friends of photographers would latch on to it! LOL

    Comment by Scott Thomas Photography — November 15, 2010 @ 3:33 pm | Reply

    • Mother Nature has certainly been, for the most part, kind to the Northeast this year – after one of the best summers I can remember in quite a while, autumn has been mild. Hope we continue to stay in Mama’ good graces for winter too.
Thanks, Scott. Maybe I can try to get back there on a shimmery winter day – didn’t a certain photographer recently mention some sort of long-term 4-season photo project????

  12. What a nice walk, Karma! Lovely! I don’t knwo which picture is my favorite today. Maybe the geese. But the reflections always tug at my heart…

    Comment by Kathy — November 16, 2010 @ 7:07 pm | Reply

    • Thanks, Kathy. It was a nice walk, but it almost felt strange without my 4-legged companions. It was definitely easier to take pictures on my own.
