Family Matters – Picture Fall, day 24

The prompt from our instructor struck a chord with me.  She said, “If it wasn’t for the self-timer, I wouldn’t be in any of the photos of my family.”  That is so true, isn’t it, photographer friends?  We usually prefer to be behind the camera, rather than in front of it.  Sometimes, though, I look at pictures of a family vacation or event, and wish that I was included as part of the action.  As a result, usually the only pictures of me are posed ones that I have wrangled the family into doing or on the rare occasion that my husband grabs the camera and sneaks in a few candid shots.  Anyway, today’s prompt requires  the family photographer to get in the picture and show our family unit.  My family has been pretty understanding through my recent photo-mania.  Thank you, family, for putting up with all my picture taking and time spent in front of the computer editing and blogging.  I love you very much!

    • I love the fact that all of us were actually home together to get the shot done. That can unfortunately be a rare occasion!

      Thanks, Cindy!

  6. This came out great!
I’m surprised though that there isn’t a blur of dog fur running by or knocking over the tripod! I’m going to assume the four legged family members were locked up in the house! I can just picture you setting timer, running to your designated spot, and the dogs thinking WHAT A FUN GAME THIS IS!…GET HER!

    • Thanks, Renae.
Honestly I am surprised that there aren’t dogs in the shot. They were both outside watching the goings-on. I think it would have been great if they had decided to jump into the shot.

    • Thanks, Scott. It is good for the family photogs to show up every now and then – we are part of the family too, afterall.

  8. LOL… Oh I soooo know that feeling… I’m not sure I appear in ANY holiday snaps and the like… The only shots I’m in ever are ones I’ve set up myself… Ah well, it’s best for everyone though if I’m t’other side of the lens… lol… You sure did capture a real fun shot though… It’s defo a winner… 🙂

    • Thank you Brian.
I’m sure your family wouldn’t mind if you got into a few shots. And the ones that you take of your “mini-me” are always so clever and funny!

    • Merci, Isa. I understood your comment, but I believe I am too tired this evening to compose my response en francais. I’m glad you like the photo of the family, and I hope that you will use your self-timer sometime soon!

  11. Wonderful family portrait! I think this is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. You all look like you’re having fun. 🙂

I don’t show up much in photos, either. I try to remedy that every now and then. Otherwise, it might be as if I never existed.

    • Thank you. If you could have seen the eye rolling and heard the huge sighs involved in getting this shot! You might think I was asking them to run across a bed of hot coals!
It is true – you can feel like you don’t exist when you are the family photog!
