Serving Up Kindness – Picture Fall, day 21

In today’s photo prompt, we were instructed to take notice of the kind things we do in our every day lives.  It got me thinking, am I being kind or am I simply doing what I feel I need to do to keep my family as healthy and happy as possible?  Are those the same thing?  I feel that I am a kind person – I will lend a sympathetic ear to a friend or colleague who needs to talk, do you a favor if I am able, lend assistance if it is in my power to do so.  But does that make me a kind person or simply a decent human being?  Are those the same thing?  This prompt kind of made me feel like I had to toot my own horn to decide what to take a picture of today.  Is it kind to toot your own horn?  Want me to stop asking questions now?  After some contemplation, I decided helping my daughter with her algebra homework could be considered a kindness:

  1. Is that Miss Meghan of the silver ball toes working on Algebra? She’s beautiful! I think that the very things you do for your family and friends – out of your love for them – is all kindness. I’m pretty sure your daughter appreciated your kindness and your happy dogs do and I do – for sharing your photos and bits of yourself every day! Glad I finally wandered over here – another ‘room’ in the house of blog friends, hey? 🙂

    • I’m glad you wandered over too, Cindy Lou. -(I think of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” every time I see your name, by the way! 🙂 )
Pictured here is actually Sarah, Meghan’s younger sister. You can see a nice picture of “Meghan of the silver ball toes” here, if you’d like.
Thank you for your kind comments.
That’s a nice way to think of it – the house of blog friends!

  2. That is such a sweet picture!
I’m so glad that Melissa doesn’t need help with her math homework, I would NOT be able to help her.
And you know what? This picture fits again, because today Melissa was invited to special lunch at school, where she received two awards (three actually, but she got one early), one of them for geometry.

    • Sometimes I think I should’ve been a math teacher, Michaela – then maybe I’d be employed as a teacher, rather than an aide now. My problem always was that I am good at math, but don’t particularly enjoy it, especially the higher maths like Trigonometry and Calculus.
      Congrats to Melissa!

  3. This is a great post, Karen! Love the “thought and contemplation”… I never want you to stop asking questions. 🙂

    • Thanks Kathy. I, too, wish we could have more than that “virtual” cup of coffee in the blog friends’ house.

  4. If you are asking questions, you are seeking and growing. Always a good thing. In the process of it all, I can tell you that you are a kind person. 🙂

    • Aw, thanks Scott – like I said, I wasn’t really looking for horn-tootin’, but it’s nice to “hear.”

  5. lol! The cat cracks me up. Made me forget what I was going to say in my comment.

I think helping your daughter with homework is a great kindness. 🙂

    • The girl discovered that LOLCat awhile ago and have loved it since. I can’t even take credit for putting it in the post – it was Meghan’s idea.

  6. Algebra…. Urrrrgh…. I never was any good at languages… and who wants to go there anyway…. 😉

Toot away too… From the occasional family based snippet I’ve picked out on your blog over the months, your attention to your family sure seems to be focused exactly where it needs to be… 🙂

    • Ah, yes, the dreaded language of math!
I believe that this little community of bloggers are all very kind of heart – you are included, Brian.

  7. Sarah looks as if she thinks you’re being kind. Maybe the only kindness that really matters is being there and being real.

    • I think Sarah was actually trying not to laugh! 😉
That is probably, at the very least, one of the most important kindnesses, Gerry. Thanks for being here! 🙂
