Unexpected Enchantment – Picture Fall, day 14

A simple object that holds a certain magic when we take the time to notice.  An object that can make you happy from its simplicity.  An object to delight our inner child.  I thought that this object fit today’s prompt perfectly:

Picture Fall - day 14

Yup, an old-fashioned, metal slinky!   Aren’t slinkies great?  Did you know that modern slinkies  are plastic and colorful?  I don’t think they would be nearly as satisfying to play with!  You wouldn’t get that great ka-ching, ka-ching sound. I had to demonstrate to my daughters how to get the slinky to walk down stairs, and once I did they were highly amused.  Teddy definitely wasn’t sure of what to think of that.  Of course, today I must leave you with this diddy from childhood:

  1. Ooohhh, slinky! I never had one myself, and those plastic ones just don’t quite work right.

  2. Ours is permanently in a tangled web. Maybe Meghan can work on it tomorrow. 🙂

  3. Slinkies! One of my favoritist things….and you’re right! They’re just not the same in plastic! In physics class last year, we got to spend one whole class playing with them to study waves……FUN!

    • Yikes! Physics! That is a class I got spooked out of ever taking in high school or college. Sometimes I wish that I had though.
      Thanks for stopping by my blog, Cindy Lou!

      • Never took it in high school or college either and had no desire to. Last year (because of the push to get learning disabled kids out into the general ed. as much as possible) I started sitting in on other classes to help. Amazing how utterly interesting biology and applied physics are now that I’m older and wiser…. The young guy that teaches it gets so excited by it that it’s hard not to – he thinks it’s funny that he’s turning me into a ‘physics geek.’ :}

  4. Slinkies are wonderful! The old-fashioned slinkies, at any rate. I don’t like the plastic ones either.

    I really like the way you captured it. 🙂
