Subtleties – Picture Fall, day 6

Well, maybe this isn’t what you would call “subtle”.  Subtle like a sledgehammer.  Today’s photo prompt encouraged us to find a single color palette and use light to bring out the subtleties and texture within the subject.  By the time I got to deciding what my subject would be, all natural light was gone for the day.  I was stuck with artificial light and flash.  At least I get to show you a few of my favo”red” things!  Ba-dum-bump! I crack myself up.

  1. favo”red”, very clever my dear.

    • Funny, I don’t really like a lot of red as a rule. I don’t buy red clothing – ever. Except for Red Sox stuff!

  3. Again, good use of the flash to bring out the color and textures. You might looking into off camera flash which would have added some direction to the light other than straight on. Anyway, sorry about the Sox this year.

    • Maybe someday, Scott. I think off camera flash will have to wait. I’ve got other things on my priority list for photography that I’m hoping Santa may help fulfill – 50mm prime lens, extension tubes and a fabulous camera bag are on the short list!

Thanks for the Sox condolensces. Especially coming from a New Yorker. I’m planning to root for the Texas Rangers in the ALCS, just to see the American League East rivals vanquished.

  4. Nice picture! I sent the link to my son. 🙂 He’s in his 30s now but has loved all things red since he was born. I used to tie a red sock to one of the bars of his crib to soothe him. He was fussy unless it was there for him to gaze at until he fell asleep. Even now, his car is red, and most of his t-shirts, too.

    • Isn’t that funny about the red sock! I know you Connecticut folks are sometimes split between favoring the Red Sox and that team from the Bronx whose name I won’t type, so I’m hoping since your son is such a red fan, the family roots for the boys from Boston! 😉

      • Definitely Red Sox! And there was never a bigger fan than my grandmother. She had a TV in her bedroom so she could watch their games after she was tucked in for the night. When we’d arrive to visit for the weekend she’d call us upstairs to sit on the bed with her, cuddling us with love and greetings during the commercials…

It’s true, Connecticut is divided. Pretty much in half. I see as many bumper stickers for one team as the other. Sigh…
