Trying a new theme

Filed under: Uncategorized — Karma @ 11:21 am

I’ve been looking at different themes and trying to choose a new one that I like. This one is called “rubric” – I chose it because it has a wider width and I wanted to use more space on the page for photos. It is also listed as having a customizable header, but I didn’t realize I could only change the photo to the right of the header and the color of the text. I’m not 100% sold on it yet, so I’d love to hear your thoughts about it. I think I’ll have to do another blog post with a larger picture setting to decide for sure, but please let me know what you think!

ETA: While I’m in the mood for something new, I’m thinking the blog could use a more interesting title too.  Any thoughts on that?

  1. This definitely has potential!! I like the wide width and I bet once you post some larger photos it will look great. Especially since you are mostly showcasing photography here, maybe the top header isn’t that important anyway. It looks nice and clean.

  2. Thanks! I’m thinking I could get to liking this.

  3. It’s not bad. I like the larger picture option, but if it was ME, I’d want a bigger customizeable header.
I also think that photos pop more on a dark background.
One thing about WordPress, they don’t have very many themes to choose from that I really like, and a big must for me is that custom header, and something that won’t cut off the side of the pictures. Although they seem to be making an effort to add new themes more often.

    • Yes, I would definitely like the header more customizable, but I don’t know if it is a “must” for me or not. Photos do look very nice on the dark background, but I’m not a big fan of reading on the dark background; I tend to do a bit more writing than a lot of strictly “photobloggers” so I don’t think I was to go to the “darkside”! 😉

      • I don’t mind reading on a dark background, but replying to a post on a blog with a dark background, very early in the morning in a dark room with no light other than the tiny bit from the monitor, and you can’t see what you’re typing (you know, for us hunt-and-peck people who never learned the proper way to type and actually have to LOOK at the keys), now THAT is tough! LOL

  4. I like it, although have to agree about the header. I especially like the width.

I’ve been thinking about using a new theme too, but just can’t seem to find something I like. I’ve use a black background theme for my Bountiful Healing blog and white for Life in the Bogs. My reasoning is similar to yours. I write more at the Bogs blog and the white seems easier to read. However, the photos do pop on the dark background at Bountiful Healing.

  5. I’m always seeking a new theme. I, too, want my photos as large as possible. I really need to learn how to build my own blog.. add that to the list.

    • I’m such a newbie to blogging that I wouldn’t even know where to begin building my own blog. I’m liking this so far. I’m using the new larger “medium” size from Flickr for the pictures, (did you know Flickr has two “mediums”? ) and I think they look pretty good.
