Karma's When I Feel Like It Blog

How it seems…

Saw this “Rhymes with Orange” comic in Thursday’s paper and knew I needed to share!  I love Hilary Price’s funny insight on the basics of life.

As I’ve said before, the number of blog hits that I get don’t really matter to me, but I do love knowing I have faithful readers.  I love the interaction of the comments section – I’m truly grateful for those of you who take the time to leave one.  I think WordPress’s new feature of letting you know that someone replied to your comment is pretty great – and if you leave me a comment, you will almost always get that notification from me! Have you seen this feature?  It looks like this when you are signed in to WordPress:

If you haven’t noticed it, the little orange number in the upper right corner of your screen alerts you to comments, replies and “likes.”  I didn’t have any unread notifications at the time I decided to write this post, so I did some editing with my “mad skillz” (LOL) in Paint.  But you get the idea!

This feels strange for me, writing a blog post with no photos to share with you!  Hopefully that situation will  change very soon.  By the way, if you haven’t seen it yet, Scott’s got a new assignment posted for this month that should definitley give you some shooting ideas.  I know I need some.

  1. I also like that I get emails when someone comments. Commenting is funny though – some days I read and read but rarely comment. Some days the fingers have nothing to say. But if I’m not commenting, it doesn’t mean I’m not reading. I often wonder, if someone reads posts through a reader, like Google Reader, but does not actually visit your site, then the blogger doesn’t get “credit” for a visit, does she/he? Sadness. I read most posts through the reader and some of those I’ve subscribed to more recently through email, but I don’t always go to the site.

    • I agree Carol. Sometimes, we just have nothing to say, even though we’ve read a blog post. That happens to me plenty. I really have no idea how blog hits are counted and whether readers give “credit” to the site for a visit.

  2. Cool! I always have to go look to see if anyone has left any comments. Thanks for stopping by! :)

    • Maybe you should think about coming over to WordPress, Dawn! :-)

  3. I’m getting frustrated with Blogger as it just doesn’t have the bells and whistles of WordPress.

I remember being so excited when I had SIX followers and then it dropped down to FIVE …

    • Its funny about followers – I think WordPress says 28 people “subscribe” to my blog, but I wonder how many actually read it! I love WordPress, Sybil – and its free, unless you want to add things like extra storage space.

  4. I think that feature is nice when someone replies to one of my comments on another blog, but it’s annoying, getting the notification here, when I’m already getting an e-mail when someone comments on, or likes one of my posts.
And yes, I’m ever so greatful to my regular blog readers who take the time to comment :-) (That stoopit Like button needs to GO!!)

    • Yes, I agree that the double notification of someone leaving a comment is unnecessary.
By the way, you can turn off the “Like” button if you don’t want it: go to your Dashboard>Settings>Sharing. Scroll down to the bottom of that page and uncheck “show like button” :-)

  5. Hi Karma, good morning–no–it’s afternoon. I hope you are having a great weekend. I think it’s wonderful that you don’t fuss about blog hits. That you just blog to share with all of us. That is the most important thing, I think. Some day I’m not going to care about blog hits at all. Some day real soon. When I grow up to be like you. :)

    • Don’t let me fool you completely Kathy – I’d be wrong if I said I wasn’t just a little excited the other day when WordPress told me I had my busiest day ever with 201 views. :-)

      • Wa HOOOO! That’s a big number! :) Do you know what caused all the hits? No wait a minute. The proper response (for a cool person) is probably a “Oh, Karma, that’s lovely.” tee hee… (but I’m excited for you anyway cuz I’m not all mature yet.)

      • It was the day I published my last photo hunt wrap-up – those tend to be my busiest posts. 8-)

  6. Lol… That is pretty funny, but I agree it’s not quantity that matters… It’s quality that counts… :)

    • Love those quality comments Brian! ;-)

  7. I make it a point to catch up with everyone’s blog posts – even if I don’t have any comments to contribute, I always enjoy stopping by to give a virtual “wave hello”!! Most of the time – if I don’t comment – it’s because I’m dead tired (like today, but I’m commenting anyway)!! Most of the time, my words just end up sounding like babbling anyway (I do better with images). I love the comic – so true!!

    • It’s true Holly – sometimes we don’t have a comment to leave, but its nice to know someone stopped by and read.

  8. Turns out I have much more in common with all of your blog readers than I already knew I had. I do a lot of blog reading, but there are days when I don’t comment, usually because I don’t really have anything worth saying. I often worry that my comments all sound the same (especially the comments I make about photos/images). There is so much good stuff out there.

    Love the comic. :)

Have you completed that assignment yet?

    Comment by Robin — March 12, 2012 @ 7:22 pm | Reply

    • I worry about the same type of thing; it is hard to come up with something original to say, but I want my blog friends to know that I was there and that I appreciate those posts.
I made an attempt on the assignment, not really happy with what I’ve taken so far.

  9. This cartoon is so true!! Love it. Had noticed the orange! I don’t really blog for anyone but myself and my boys, but it is nice when someone “gets” you and what you have blogged about!

    • It’s true Amy! I love it when someone “gets” me!
