My Favorites of 2010

I’m totally stealing this idea (with permission) from Scott Thomas.  I’ve chosen some of my favorite photos that I’ve taken this year.  I think I’ve shared most, if not all, on the blog.  Not surprisingly, the majority were taken after my purchase of Mr. Andre Rebel.  I have other favorites, such as family shots, but I realize they are favorites for personal reasons, so I weeded those out as I was narrowing down my choices.  I narrowed it down to 12, with some difficulty, and I’d love to read about which you like best in the comments.

I think this was a fabulous idea that Scott had – maybe some others of you out there will steal this idea too?  I will definitely come vote at your place too, should you decide to showcase your 2010 favorites.

I don’t know if this will be my last blog post of 2010 or not – I’m not yet sure what New Year’s Eve holds for me.  The most likely scenario is that I will be home watching a movie while hubby works, perhaps staying awake long enough to watch the ball drop in Times Square.  I hope 2011 is a great year for you.  I’d especially like to extend this wish to two of my favorite bloggers who have decided to take hiatuses from blogging for undetermined amounts of time.  Brian of FS Photography and Kathy of Lake Superior Spirit want to step back from blogging to refresh their spirits.  I hope this break does the trick for them and that we will see them back to posting as soon as possible.

  1. I like morning beach walk the best. Reminds me of my days studying coastal planning. Mornings on the beach or coastal wetlands are always pleasant.

  2. They are all beautiful, but I think my 2 favorites are the “most interesting creature” and the rainbow shot – very nice!!

    • That interesting creature is a hummingbird moth in case you weren’t familiar. Thanks, Holly.

  4. Hi Karen–I just turned on the computer to check email for the first time since early last evening and saw your lovely email and invitation to visit your blog. Thank you for the well wishes! It feels right to take a blogging break but also a little nerve-wracking because…I don’t know about you…but I’m always reaching for the computer, the email, the blog, Facebook when I don’t know what to do next. It is intereting to watch yourself at times like these. (P.S. I like ALL your photos. What fun!)

    • Yes, me too – always reaching for the computer when I have a spare moment, hoping there will be a friendly email alerting me that some kind soul has left a comment for me to enjoy. Thank you for yours, Kathy.

  5. High Key Teddy is my favorite, I’m sure that is no surprise to you :-)

  6. I have to pick a favorite??? I can’t do it, they’re all great! I don’t know HOW you were able to narrow it down to 12… I could never do it with mine (so I won’t be stealing this idea ;-) )
Wishing you the best in 2011!

    • Thanks, Michaela. I don’t know how I picked 12 – I guess I chose the ones that “spoke” to me for one reason or another, and I tried to represent all 4 seasons as well, which I luckily accomplished.

  7. So hard to pick just one. I like the Peony, the nest of bunnies, the heron, vacation sunset and Teddy — all for different reasons. Happy New Year!

    Comment by Andrea — December 30, 2010 @ 7:09 pm | Reply

    • Hee, hee Andrea – you picked almost half of them! ;-)
      Thanks!

  8. I like the heron encounter best…though I like the butterfly too….and the sunset…but I know how difficult it is to get close to the herons..so that’s my vote! :)

    Comment by Dawn — December 30, 2010 @ 7:51 pm | Reply

    • Why thank you, Dawn. It can be difficult to be sneaky when slogging through low-tide water and mud!

  9. Hard to choose just one, but I’ll have to go with the mums. I’m a sucker for a floral shot! And I love the color and clarity in that one.
The (freaking) peony is a very close 2nd because I know how much you love them! ;oP

    • Thanks, Nae.
At least I didn’t have to take 40 (freaking) peony pictures, right? ;-)

  10. My vote is for the tire swing! I love the bokeh in the center.

    • That, I thought, was one of the trickiest prompts from “Picture Fall.” I ended up very happy with that.
      Thanks, Becky.

  11. Very lovely slideshow, Karen! I think I would have a very difficult time narrowing down my favorites of 2010. That is why I didn’t even try.

Now, for yours, I like the nest of sleeping bunnies (just ooozies cuteness!), vacation sunset, the rainbow and Teddy (really amazing animal portrait!). :-)

New Year’s Eve will be very quiet for us as I am under the weather. Not that it would have been all that exciting otherwise! :-)

I’m hoping the new year will find you feeling much better!

  12. J’aime ce diaporama et toutes tes photos ! Two especially are my favourites : the beach on the walk and the peony. Both really inspiring in different ways. Bonne et Heureuse Année, Karen, très sympa de te connaître :)

  13. They are all wonderful images (and I can see why they are favorites!). If I have to choose one it is the Nest of Bunnies. They are so cute!

    Happy New Year, Karma! :)

    • The nest of bunnies was actually a kick-off for me – they were my first feature when I started this blog last April. I went out to check on them daily until they left the nest.
Happy New Year to you too!

  14. I keep coming back and each time new ones load. The bunnies. Definitely the bunnies. But Teddy makes a much better logo than baby bunnies.

    • Thanks Gerry.
My new year’s wish for you is that someone makes high-speed internet available to Torch Lake Township! :-)
